Ok, this one is kinda boggling my mind. I have a Vizio VO32L that "kind of" won't power on and "kind of" has no picture. I say this to indiciate that i have been able to get it to power on and show a perfect picture but cannot replicate this. further details to clarify this mess of an opening statement to follow:
For starters....when first plugged in, the orange vizio standby light comes on and then slowly fades. It still on, just not as bright. Pressing the power button does nothing. 5VSB is outputting appx. 5V as it should. 12V and 24V pins have 0V as to be expected when not powered on. If I jump 5VSB to PSON, the 12V and 24V pins come up to proper voltage. However the power button still does nothing and it won't power on. Still the orange light.
Now here's where it gets strange. I took the button board off of the plastic bezel so I could test connections to verify that the power switch actually is working. (didint disconnect wires, just made the board accessible). The switch tested ok. Open when not pressed, closed when pressed. Then I set the button panel down (turns out i set it so the bottom of the board was resting on the shield over the inverter, not paying attention). At this point, I jumped from 5VSB to PSON again, and to my surprise the second I plugged the jumper into the PSON I heard a speaker make a little buzz for a split second, and at the same time a blue led on the back of the inverter came on and quickly faded out, and the backlight was on. I looked at the front of the panel and low and behold the dang thing is on and blue with "no input" bouncing around the screen! Vizio light was lit up bright white. Pressed the power button and the screen turned off, vizio light went orange, then within 1 second (i didn't press the power button again), the vizio light went white and the panel powered back on again working perfectly. Pressed the power button again and did the same thing. Off then right back on again. So I pulled the ac plug, then plugged it back in, and it automatically turned itself on and the screen came on etc. Pulled the plug again, then removed the jumper wire from the 5VSB/PSON pins to see if it would power up on it's own now. plugged it back in, pushed the power button, and not a thing. Tried to jump from 5VSB to PSON again and it's right back to where it was before. Orange vizio light, 12V and 24V power at the corresponding pins, but the set won't come on. it was then that I realized where I had set the button board before, and was wondering if me somehow shorting one of the solder joints to case ground did something that allowed the set to come on, which may in some way indicate where the problem is. As such I tried to replicate by finding the same short. Looks like the only power to the button board is 5VSB, so I shorted 5VSB to ground while it was jumped to PSON, and I heard a cap charge quick and the blue LED on the inverter came on again, backlight came on again, but only for a split second then it went out. Now if I try that same thing I hear that cap charge but its still where it was at the very beginning. All the pins power up but the set won't power on.
Needless to same I'm completely at a loss here. Thought I was on to something but since I can't replicate the TV powering on I have no clue what to do next. Does someone know the proper steps to manually jump / power on this set? Do I need to ground something or jump voltage to something other than 5VSB to PSON? Something that I was accidentally doing at some point but couldn't figure out?
Hoping someone can make some sense of this thing that has me completely stumped.
Thank you in advance for any help and suggestions! It is much appreciated as always!
