Hi all, I am trying to troubleshoot this set for a neighbor.
It won't power on. No standby light, no power light, nothing. I've listened closely with the back open and I don't hear any sounds when attempting to power up. I've tried using the IR blaster on my phone in case the power button was the problem. that is not working, but I also can't say for sure that I have tried the right codes.
I checked the fuse on the power board, and the surface mount fuse on the main board, and both test OK. I have a little under 118V at the power board fuse.
I don't see any swollen or...

Re: Vizio VO32L - no picture / won't power on
It has been sitting for a few hours. Plugged in but the surge protector switched off. Jumpers still in place to PS-ON and BL-ON. I flipped the switch on the surge protector and the set came on, screen came on blue and displayed the input and no signal etc. In other works, working properly. (But jumped). I pressed the power button and it shut off. Vizio light back to orange. Pressed power again and it wouldn't come back on. Just the orange vizio light and the backlights. So I unplugged it and disconnected tcon. With the tcon disconnected...

Re: Vizio VO32L - no picture / won't power on
alright. pin 12 ("on/off") on the inverter goes to "A" on the inv connector on the power board. When I jump 5V-SB to both PS-ON and "A" (BL-ON), The blue LED on the inverter comes on then fades out over about 1 second. the backlight comes on and stays on. The Vizio light on the front stays dim orange. Black screen.

Re: Vizio E421VA - no picture
There are 2 cables going from the Tcon to the motherboard. the small one on the right side and the larger one on the left. Heres what happens:
Small disconnected, large connected. Won't power on. no backlights.
small connected, large disconnected. Powers on, backlights on.
Both disconnected. Powers on, backlights on.
With both of the Tcon-Main cables still connected, removing one of the ribbon cables to the panel makes 1/2 of the screen go white and the other half black. With the white half being the corresponding...

Re: Vizio VO32L - no picture / won't power on
ok, thanks for the tips. Might save me from inadvertently frying some stuff in the future! I'm having trouble finding a BL-ON pin. Are you able to see from the pics which pin this might be? No luck finding a service manual for this model.
That aside....assuming that jumping PS-ON BL-ON works and it powers the set on like it should, what should I start looking into on the main board?

Re: Vizio E421VA - no picture
Ok. I don't have an o-scope but plan on picking one up in the future. so, short of checking for the presence of signals, im pretty much at a board swap stage then? In that case, in your opinion do you think it would be more likely that the Tcon is bad or that the main board is bad? or is it just about a toss up as to which board to try first

Re: Vizio E421VA - no picture
Hmm. ok. Any further testing I can perform to pinpoint the issue? Or at least which board is bad? In either case, is it most likely not something that can be fixed easily at component level and would warrant a board swap? I'm somewhat comfortable with SMD soldering.

Vizio VO32L - no picture / won't power on
Ok, this one is kinda boggling my mind. I have a Vizio VO32L that "kind of" won't power on and "kind of" has no picture. I say this to indiciate that i have been able to get it to power on and show a perfect picture but cannot replicate this. further details to clarify this mess of an opening statement to follow:
For starters....when first plugged in, the orange vizio standby light comes on and then slowly fades. It still on, just not as bright. Pressing the power button does nothing. 5VSB is outputting appx. 5V as it should. 12V and 24V pins have 0V as to be...

Re: Vizio E421VA - no picture
Yes. On the power board output, the 5V pins read 5.0V, the 12V pins read 11.9V, and the 24V pins read 25.0V

Re: Vizio E421VA - no picture
Thanks about the pix. Would you believe they were taken on a cell phone?haha
Alright:
C4402: 11.93V
C4405: 5.01V
FB4401: 11.88V

Re: LG 50PG20-UA Plasma - ** NO POWER **
I've double and triple checked the larger transistors and diodes attached to the heatsinks and I'm not having any luck finding anything bad. Tried tracing the circuit and no luck there either. I'm either missing it or somehow measuring wrong. But getting expected readings so I presume that I've just not tested the bad component yet somehow....
Any thoughts on how to proceed from here?

Re: Vizio E421VA - no picture
Alright. I removed the shield. Here are pics of the front and back of the tcon. I still can't find a fuse on it. Am I just missing it or is there no fuse on this one?
Thanks!...

Re: Vizio E421VA - no picture
Here is a picture of the whole backside of the tv. The T-con has a metal shield soldered to it, so it's someone hard to see, but I'm not having any luck finding a fuse on it. Should I get that shield off there?...

Re: LG 50PG20-UA Plasma - ** NO POWER **
Here is a better picture of that area.
And yes, I measure between the indicated points in the photo you uploaded. The left leg of the fuse to the ground. I tested this with a few points on the ground plane to confirm that all had the same results....
