    Vizio VW42L FHDTV10A HDMI inop...kinda

    I've done a lot of searching but didn't find a thread that covered the same issue with an LCD. If this has already been covered I apologize and direct me if you can.

    I've got a Vizio VW42L FHDTV10A that has developed several different issues of the years.

    The first started a few years ago with no display but would have sound when turned on. Could turn off and turn back on and all was well. Didn't happen that often so I didn't worry about it. Then it got worse...it would turn on but after a few seconds would turn off. Turn it on a few more times and all was good. Then got to the point it was a pain to get it to stay on. I let it set for a few month then decided to see what I could find wrong. Found 2 bad caps on the main board. Replaced them. All was good....so I thought. Turns on and off just fine. Stays on when turned on. Now on to the new developed second issue.

    All inputs seem to work except the HDMI. I have a Chromecast plugged into one of the HDMIs. When I plug in the Chromecast it goes to a black screen. I reboot the Chromecast and it shows the Chrome logo but then goes to a black screen when it should be showing the scrolling backdrops. I can stream something to the Chromecast and I get audio but no video. I plugged in my old Blu-ray player and it shows the splash screen but then goes black or flickers from blue to black. I've switched the resolution of the Blu-ray player to everything I can but does the same thing. It's almost like it will only display 480i.

    Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Mike

      Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
      by Tynan Dill
      I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

      Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

      I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

      The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

      With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

      Assuming...

      Vizio VW42L FHDTV10A will not turn on without unplugging and plugging TV back in
      by ken_taz
      Summary
      ======
      Vizio VW42L FHDTV10A will not power on without unplugging and re-plugging the TV back in several times.

      Problem
      ======
      The TV will not always act the same way when it is plugged in to try and get it to start up.

      First, I plug the TV in and get the Vizio logo to light up orange. Press the button to turn it on and nothing happens.

      I then unplug the TV and wait a few seconds and re-plug it back in. This time when I press the button, the Vizio logo turns white, but no back light comes on. During this time the outputs...

      Vizio M65-C1
      by mrtek
      Hi.

      picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
      When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
      This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...

      Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel
      by howardc64
      Failure Symptom

      No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

      Where is the short?

      Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

      Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...
