Magnavox 47MF437B/37 slight hum when plugged in no picture squeaks when turned on

    Hello everyone,

This is my second thread on this website and I would like to just say that without anyone to help me last time I would've achieved nothing and would like to just thank the community for being as exemplary as it is.

Also I'd like to say that I'm very very novice at soldering and whatnot and the first experience I had soldering was my last fix. So please break it down for me in terms of a laymen. I also only have the tools located in this pack on amazon from my last fix: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    No Multimeter
A few inches of solder and wick with a poor solder sucker.

So to break down the issue:
Unplugged no sound or smell or anything of the sort.
Just plugged in there is a slight hum.
Plugged in and turned on the power button led turns from red to green for 5 seconds while squeaking, and then turns back to red with a slight hum.
Opened it up and the PSU has one bulging capacitor.

Read up on previous posts on the forums that diodes seem to be the majority of the problem of the make and model of this tv.

    The TV is:
    Magnavox Model #:47MF437B/37 serial #:BZ5A0751360493

I've also attached some pictures for better idea.
I apologize that they are poor quality as my phone is not really all that great.

Thank you for both the help now and previously.
I hope to learn some better troubleshooting techniques and such from the intelligent community here.

Is there something I'm missing in my explanation that isn't allowing anyone to be able to respond? Or is it just because I'm new to this and I'm in the wrong forums?

Well since the cap is obviously bad change that first, but yes shorted ZD902, ZD904, D925 diodes are common. Although without a multimeter you will be at the mercy of a spray and pray approach. I see a multimeter in your future....

Is this multimeter a viable option?

Also, when trying to check the pins or whatnot for caps or diodes and such, does one usually need to unsolder them to get an accurate reading? Because it would be my second time soldering anything and the first time I didn't do so good haha.

Ive never heard of that one before but it has gotten enough good reviews I think it will do what you need without breaking the bank.

I test diodes (and most other components) on board without unsoldering them, after I find any that read bad I lift one leg and retest. Sometimes the diode acts as a snubber in parallel with a low resistance resistor and will test as bad in circuit but is just fine.

As to your soldering find an old piece of electronics you dont want to fix and use it to practice desoldering and resoldering. Tin your tip well and add a little new solder to the joint the flux will make it easier to flow the old solder. Check out some videos on youtube on soldering and testing diodes

Thank you for the assistance, replaced the capacitor leaking the electrolytic fluid and changing I think 925 diode solved the problem just fine.

                by Shinju
                Hey All!

Long time forum member here with a problematic laptop issue!

I got a RZ09-0196 with a bloated battery (still worked and charged fine) I pulled the old cell pack out and installed a new cell pack in its place.

The laptop would not power on with the new battery installed without the power supply being plugged in.

When booting into Win10 (all up to date BTW) I saw the battery icon with 49% plugged in not charging.

TL;Dr version, old battery worked, charged but was bloated, installed a new non OEM replacement, laptop/windows...

Asus Rog GL502VM Rev 2.0 - Power button LED on as soon as plugged in but no video or fans
                by zwect
I have this Asus ROG laptop (the 1060 + 6700HQ variant) which lights up the power button's LED when i plug the charger in but does nothing else. Opening up there are no signs of any burnt or corroded components, i've checked the resistance of both CPU and GPU's cores on the caps underside them, the CPU's VCCCORE's caps read 1.2ohm and the GPU's NVVDD read about 0.5 to 0.6ohm. I then tried to check any voltages while the laptop is plugged in (without any of the removable parts) and the GPU's core voltage instantly goes to 0.8v when plugged then getting slowly warm, the PCH does so too (not so warm...

Strange! Acer laptop not powering on but charging the battery (orange light on when charger and battery plugged in).
                by serious_electron
                Hello Everyone!

I have an Acer Aspire A315-42 laptop. I generally leave it on for long time by closing down its lid (so it enters the sleep mode). Recently, it rained quite heavily in out area. And the humidity and moisture seem to be high. So one late evening, after I opened the lid and turned on the laptop, it did power on as the blue light turned on but after it booted to the desktop screen, just 5-10 seconds after both the screen and blue light went out and laptop shut down (the blue power light turned orange). And after 2-4 seconds that orange light went off and the laptop died.

MacBook Pro A1706 charge stuck at 5v when battery is plugged in
                by pluggedDan
                Hi all,

I have an A1706 that was liquid damaged, the logic board turns on and works when the battery connector is not plugged in, but when the battery is plugged in, the computer is stuck on 5v @ 30-40 Mah, and USB-C meter will reboot every 5 sec or so, pressing and holding down the power button will make the USB-C meter to stop boot looping, and if you keep holding it, fan will quickly spin up and turn off.

when the battery is unplugged and plug in the charger then plug in the battery it will stay on 20V and 1.6A-2.6A but when you unplug the charger, the computer...
