    37" technika lcd37-207 cycling red,green blue

    I have a 37" technika lcd37-207

    Main board is vestel 17mb12-2
    PSU is 17pw20-1

all voltages are fine & no bulged caps

How ever, when it powers up it cycles red, green then blue, repeating.
seems like its in some sort of test mode.

Is any one aware of such a test mode and if so how to exit from it.

There is no access to menus or av source selection

    any suggestions?

    E

Wait for Tom he loves Vestel sets! LOL

Sounds like a test pattern loop but I certainly haven't seen a test pattern option on any vestel boards before. Most likely a bad Main

The epprom is a little 8 pin o the mobo will look something like this:
You can simplify buy a blank one and install it.

r u saying a blank one will make it work i.e. erase it?? - or replace it as it may be faulty?

Literally just a blank epprom of the same type will work on these sets.

Really almost any compatible EEPROM will work, I have borrowed one off a different Vestel set stuck it in, all settings were wrong but did a factory reset and changed the defaults where appropriate (have to set, e.g. the number of HDMI and SCART inputs, type of tuner, type of LCD panel...)

These main board arent actually that bad rearly see them fail apart from epprom and bad start up resistor too bad the psu is a pso.

                    Fixed....

did a bit of googeling after your eeprom comments, procedure was as follows

                    1. powered up tv and removed eeprom (on socket) as quick as i could, then waited 30 sec.
                    2. reinserted eeprom (this was the old one) whilst powered up then waited 30 secs.
                    3. powered down, then up. every thing was OK

did'nt even have to go into service menu to reset av inputs

                    thnx

                    guys n gals

Good stuff also consider recapping the psu, when ever I get these 17pw20's I fully recap the including the poll caps above the transformer, they are ticking time bombs. Here is one I did a few days ago.

Ive had a couple of these do this....

Easy way out is turn set on--its flashing through colours--Obtain the correct 'Service-Mode' code for that mainboard, Enter via remote and the 'fault' clears.

No need for messing with EEPROMS.

--Whats all this with those 'Poly' caps by the heatsink then? I must have done several hundred of these--NEVER had any issues with those caps!

Intermittent shut-down is dry-joints on the three diagonal SM resistors--Not those caps....
                        TELEFIX

How PLASMA SCREENS WORK, X-SUS and Y-SUS what they do--

Basically the early 17pw20 v1 which had the red type of polyls they tended to fail causing lots of issues like intermittent power ect.
