You can use 3.3V 1W Zener, but you have to make sure it is hooked up in reverse of the LED to get 3.3V drops.
How did you connected the 5 1n4007 into the circuit?
Another problem can be that the LED is Dual LED in one body so the Vf will be around 6.6~7V, need to verify that.

The Zenner Diode used was BZX79C-3V9 it was inserted forward biased. The IN4007 I used were inserted x5 in series but as already stated were unsuccessful.
When tested after 10 mins of run time the LEDs temp was 22 deg centigrade whilst the zenner diode was just over 20 deg centigrade.
I do not believe the LEDs to be of the dual type.

It is in forward bias mode then the Vf will be only 0.6~0.7V instead of 3.9V in reverse bias mode which is how the Zener is used, reverse bias, so it will be the same as using 1 1N4007.

Re: Toshiba 46TL963 no back lights - LED strip burnt

Final note on this successful repair. After trying 5 x IN4700 in series and finding that it didn't work I tried using 4,3,2 and eventually 1 IN4700 afraid none worked. As previously stated the Zener diode did work but not any Zener diode I tried 4 different ones but only BZX79C-3v9 was successful.
Would like to point out that this information is specific to the Toshiba 46TL963 which is edge lit and may or may not be similar to repair of other edge lit LED TVs.

Most likely in the bad LED's place, to create a bridge.
