If you take it down to the panel. Your problem isn't the top ribbon connections it actually the ones on the side. They don't actually connect to anything but for some reason, probably heat related they can distort the picture.

I had a Samsung LN32C450D 1G doing something similar. My upper screen was faded and the bottom about the same width showing good picture. Tried a new T-CON and that didn't work...So I went with bad panel diagnosis.
However I am looking for a main board for a LG 47" if you are scrapping for parts.

What's the part number? I can check my bins when I get home tonight.
The little things hanging out the edge of the panel aren't useless - they're the gate drivers. They get their drive signal through the LCD glass itself and chain the signal to each IC. If they go bad you will see something like this usually only affecting 1/4 of the screen.
