SHARP LC-46X20E No B/L flicker 2 sec to black

Got hold of this pretty old 1080p? Sharp set, which has obviously had a very hard life!
Poor thing is stinking--both inside and out of nicotine and crud/grime.

The main symptom was the led flashing constantly red, although once it flashed green and fired up--for a few seconds, with flickering backlight.

I could force it on by holding Source/Input and Vol down where the boot would repeat, flickering BL and then off followed quickly by return to flashing red led.

Found a pot on the BL board, so cranked it up to full....

Fired it up again into its service-mode and the backlight no longer flickered but still shut down. Second time tried, it stayed on....

I went through the service-menu and found the accumulated hours of the backlight--

    30,120 odd hours.....

Hmm I think the BL tubes are pretty well worn out at that use! equates to 8 hours per day for over 10 years!

Set has also a slight tab-bond issue which disappears when warmed up, two pixel lines at far left of screen....

Picture however, considering its extreme age and hours is really very very good.

Think I'll put it aside and look for a 46" or thereabouts with cracked screen to rob the 21 backlight tubes from, and shim the tabs.....
Oh--and a Huge bucket of cleaning products!

So--Looks like they CAN make 'em to last--When they want to!

sounds like the backlight CCFLs are most likely burned up seen it before and cranking the pot on the back light board is most likely ramping up the current control or down the current as that failing backlights of course it's not going to work if you have one ccfl out completely it will shut down with an error as the balancing is not proper.
I noticed that sharp TVs are especially finicky with failing or worn backlights

my rule of thumb has always been that if you put a perfectly white screen on the TV look around the perimeter edges but they look brown what you're seeing is the back light tubes burned on the edges which entails a worn out back light bulb

also if you have a pinkish area of course that is a worn-out backlight failing to start up properly which will usually throw off the TV and an error code

Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Ran the set white-screen, there's no huge difference at the sides to the middle, just the usual somewhat dimmer at the sides/top/bottom--This was done when the set had been on for an hour or so and was fully hot.

Obviously at 30K hours those bulbs must be pretty much done though.....

just picked one of these sets up, just flashing red led, go to take the back off and find it only has 5 screws in it, (alarm bells ring) looks inside, and its missing most of the screws from boards, someone has had a go at this and give up,
anyway, i have replaced the screws and pluged it back in and still the same red led flashing, so my question is, where is the best place to start with this, i do have 5v stand by, but nothink else at the moment, also tryed the vol down and input at power up and get the red flashing twice and green flashing twice, but no boot or back light at all.

Samsung flicker - BN44-00932T board or else?
            by fixit007
I picked up this TV that the prior owner said - just died.

Tested the fuse - burnt. A dead capacitor is visible too on the hot side (CP801). Got the replacement power board (cheaply - used). Replaced the board - the TV turned ON!

Now, about a month later (yesterday) I noticed the left side of the screen was flickering from time to time. That was already happening with the antenna input, not through HDMI.

Also, some glitchiness with a Fire stick on HDMI3 - I hit an app with quick dark screen in stick, the TV goes - no input. Then I had to choose the stick...

            UN65TU7000 strobing / flicker
            by howardc64
Good picture but has ~200Hz+ faint flicker/strobing over entire screen. Also has a single green vertical line. Can mask out t-con signals (2pins) to stop flicker/strobing but 1/12 of screen will be all colorful vertical lines (single green vertical line is in this section)

Since can mask t-con signal to disable part of the screen and stop flicker/strobing. Obviously not backlight.

Panel has 4x driver boards each responsible for 1/4 of the screen. 3 tabs on each board. Each tab responsible for 1/12 of the screen. the 2 outer most tabs has additional horizontal gate control...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
            by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Sharp Aquos Lc-80LE757U flashing Sharp on screen when plugged in
            by sefoster
I have a Sharp Aquos LC-80LE757U that randomly made a loud popping noise when when watching TV one day. We found that the fuse blew and the thermistor. We ended up replacing the entire power supply board and have also replaced the TCON board. Now as soon as I plug the TV in it lights up and has the Sharp logo flashing on and off of the screen. If I unplug the ribbon cable from the TCON board to the main board I get the 2 long 5 short error code. Any ideas on where to go from here? We've tried resetting it but nothing has worked. If we plug it in and let it cycle through the flashing of the Sharp...

            Sharp LC-80LE661U 80 inch
            by gavenb
            Hi folks!
I have a LC-80LE661U that had some interesting issues.
Initially, it would come on and show the sharp logo and would show normal static before shutting off.

I started troubleshooting by disconnecting the led lighting strips and turning it on. It would do the same thing - come on, show the sharp logo and shut off. After reading, it was suggested to replace the main board. That was replaced and the same symptoms resulted. After this and some reading, the parts cannon got loaded up. I replaced the power board, same issue. Replaced the Tcon board and now it...
