Re: Samsung HL61A750 TV Sub PCB (BP96-01726B) resistor identification

You can put 1W in place then check the Voltage drop on the resistor to calculate the power dissipation, then double that for the Wattage of resistor to use.

" Can I just replace them all? But I would surely need your help to identify what they are and what their specifications are. As my thought is even if they are not dead yet, they may have been kind of damaged already, so if there are not too many components, I would rather replace them all to have a more reliable board for the long term."
That is the problem with this kind of failure mode, you will not know for sure how many components are damaged beside the blown open resistor and damaged IC.

I am thinking about changing all components connected to the Source, regardless if they are good or bad (if they are not that many). Would that work?

so which component I should check next? or, can I order and install the ic and resistor, and then see if it works properly?

It will be best to get the diagram of the board to see what components are connected to the S pin and where the output of that circuit is connected to, it looks like the out put goes out to feed other board, if that is the case, it can be real complicated.

I actually have been trying to find the wiring diagram with no success. Do you know of any web site or any method that I can get that?

That is not much of the information, I really do not know what else to suggest, I do not think it is good idea to put so much money into DLP.

referring to the second attachment of my first post, do you know what that black round thing (with the white glue on its back, right next to the fuse) is? It has "DSC 5d-15" on it. I search on the web, it seems like it is a INRUSH CURRENT LIMITER. It has a logo, please see attached.

I cannot find the specification for it.

Its a thermistor, and yes it is a current limiter, They work by stopping the initial rush of current when first turning the PSU on, It protects the following circuit. As current passes through it warms up allowing the current to flow at full.

                        Resistance at 25c = 5.0 Ω
                        Max Steady State Current = 6.0 A
                        Thermal Dissipation Constant = 20c
Thermal Time Constant = 75 seconds
                        Beta Constant (25/85c ±10%) = 3000
                        Max capacitance (120vac) = 2450μf
                        Max capacitance (240vac) = 610μf

Thanks, newtothis. Can you tell the spec with this "DSC 5d-15" info.? Or is there anywhere I can find the spec, as I have spent a long time trying to find it on the web already.

Actually I have the same thought, that is why I try to repair this board myself. A new board will cost me about CAN$160, which is not a lot of money if for sure it can fix the tv. But I am worry about if there is anything else wrong with it other than this board. What I am trying to do is to spend a little bit of money and see if I can revive this board. So far the components are not really that expensive, most of the money spent is on shipping charge.

I am planning to change the other 6 components in the same area of the IC and the resistor. Totally this will cost me around another CAN$15 (on top of the CAN$25 I have paid for the caps previously), which is not too bad even if this does not work out. It is a fun project anyway.

Thanks again for your help so far. If you can, please help me choose the remaining parts (an inductor and an Inrush Current Limiter, which i have posted in the "General Electronics Technical Discussion".

One more thing, would it be OK to just use a 1W resistor even if the orginal is a 0.5W? Thanks.

Yeah... either we have to wait for months, or the shipping charges are a killer here. Maybe others disagree, but for me the 1W resistor is ok. If something goes wrong, it still will fail.
