Hitachi 50HYT62U back light but no picture.

Hi, I've been asked to look at a TV because they've lost the receipt and can't take it back.

The TV powers up, to a back lit blank screen, originally the picture went blurred with like lines (I'll upload a picture) but now it's just blank.

I thought t-con but it's an LED TV and it seems to be integrated with the panel.
Anyone have any thoughts? It's still within it's warranty, just can't be returned because of no receipt.

Is there any common vestel issues that would cause this fault? thanks guys.

Looks like a bad LCD panel to me. Probably not going to be repairable.

Will be more and more common as these budget LED-LCD TVs start dying, it'll be panel, LED backlights or main board (firmware) before anything else.

I thought it could be pretty bad. You said in another post earlier about the Sale of goods act. Could this apply to them too?

Yes but you will need proof of purchase. If they bought it with a credit/debit card that may be sufficient as it will have date, time, location of purchase and price.

They will also need an engineers report (as it is older than 6 months) you could make one on a printed letter head stating that it is your professional opinion that a TV should last more than X months.

Ah they paid cash for it and lost the receipt. I don't like being the bearer of bad news lol

It's always worth using a card... For just ~2% average (if you pay off in same month) you can get all the fraud protection and proof of purchase of a card... why bother using cash? Many card providers also give cashback, so you'd be out nothing with some of the 2-3% cashback offers...

Just make sure they avoid another Vestel, get a Panny or LG (or a good plasma!)

I'll forward the recommendations when they come and collect this. Turns out it's only 3 months old

the UPC bar code on the box the tv came in, is also proof of purchase, I'd take box and all back for a refund, dont worry about the first person you talk to, if they don't cooperate, always demand to see the manager, and get anything but Vestel, per toms advice.
