Plasma Panasonic 65VT60 vertical bar problem

    Hi,
I have a vertical bar in the plasma, about 7 inch wide.
You can see it in the attached photo.
    Is it fixable?

    Thanks,
    Gil

Hmm, it does not look good. That could be a bad panel or a loose/damaged ribbon cable.

Worth opening the set up and checking all the ribbon cables to the panel are seated well (do this with power off.)

tw2005 may have some advice on "mirror" or test pattern functions.

      Thanks for the quick response.
The plasma belongs to a friend and he suggested to sell it to me.
As I don't have the option to open it, what are the chances of bad panel?
Does this texture of the bar is familiar/typical with ribbon disconnected?

The vertical bars on my bad panel Samsung plasma were black with sparklies in them. Those look more like a LCD panel failure.

If you can get it for cheap it might be worth the risk. If it isn't fixable you can always sell the boards.

I'd say bad panel 50-50 chance. A bit of a risk in other words.

Do those lines project colors when the screen is black or no signal?

To me it looks like a loose ribbon, but like tom66 said its a 50/50 gamble.

              Hi Shinju,
If those lines project colors when the screen is black or no signal, what does it mean?
Is there any troubleshooting procedure that someone can recommend when I will look at this plasma (before opening it)?

You will need to get the panel in hand and the back taken off and some good clear photos of the insides and close ups of the boards.

manual, read it and go into service mode then follow instructions and do a horizontal flip. basically if it goes to the other side then a board, otherwise the only options left would be the panel or possibly the c buffer for that side of the panel

Small chance a damaged ribbon could also cause this. (This can happen if someone wall mounts their TV using bolts that are too long - the bolts can go into the ribbon cables.)

Re: Plasma Panasonic 65VT60 vertical bar problem

                      Hi,
                      I bought today the TV.
There is a black bar on the right, after it there is this colored bar. the colored bar is sometimes from top to bottom and sometimes only from top to third way to the bottom.
I opened the cover and want to remove the bottom bar to see the ribbons of C1 board.
I can't open the side bar in order to remove the bottom bar (see image)
Any suggestions? I couldn't see how in the manual...

                      Thanks,
                      Gil

One more inspection, and I think I found the root cause but need your help:
I found that C1 ribbons are offset to the right, causing bad contact as you can see in the attached images.
C2 and C3 are aligned properly.
You can see enlarged image of the ribbons and the pins of the connector.
Now I really need help of my previous question of how to disconnect the left and bottom bars so I can reach all ribbons of C1 and align them properly.
I can see that the bars are attached to the panel with some shield (see image)

Are those the ribbons on the left of the set (looking from the back)? Those would not cause the fault you are seeing - if they were badly aligned you would get bars going across, left-to-right, not from top-to-bottom.

No, these are the ribbons of C1 board (at the bottom)
The bar is in the side of C1 board

Re: Plasma Panasonic 65VT60 vertical bar problem

with the VT30, where the control is for the TV is next to the Ydrive buffers on the lower buffer. I had to disconnect the entire metal bar to be able to pull out the ydrive buffer ribbons.

You might have to pull that off, as I see it looks very simular and then you might be able to access the lower bar that is blocking your C buffers.

Can you get a photo of the entire back side of the panel?

Egads! I am not sure, it looks like its the entire frame.

I would look for a Repair manual if you can find one with the exploded view of the TV.

These slimmer panny plasma panels seem to be a pain to get into some of the components!

It's quite likely the ribbons are bonded onto the board there. They are definitely bonded on the 2012 720p sets. It is a cost saving measure but it means a bad connection cannot be (easily) fixed.

Wow, the heatsink is really wimpy... I was thinking of picking up one of these (50/55" version) with pink blob fault (easy fix), but I am now reconsidering...

I hope someone on this forum can assist me.
                                          I have a panasonic TH-42PC77U plasma television.
the lower 1/2 of the screen has become flaky....in and out, then finally goes black and you can only see the top portion.
i have performed the reset to default settings quite a few times. Panasonic recommended..did not believe this would help...it didn't.
I have removed the back panel and looked around for something obvious...burn marks in a board, etc....nothing obvious...
I have read some posts that suggest the problem is related to the boards on the left...

Problem with PANASONIC CF53 laptop after changing BIOS settings
                                          by AquaMan Ua
Hello. I am asking you for a hint on how to solve the problem with my touchbook Panasonic CF53-2 standart model. After setting up the BIOS, the laptop displays the wrong image until Windows loads. (More precisely, it displays, but distorted, instead of the Panasonic image immediately after turning it on, it displays what is in photo #1 in the attached file) Then the image appears when Windows starts loading and then there are no problems with the screen until the reboot. If you enter the BIOS, just a black screen. If you connect an external screen, the image on it is the same as on the built-in...

                                          Viewsonic G810 vertical deflection problem
                                          by Returning Buick
I have a G810 monitor i've had for years but it has developed a problem with vertical collapse. Is there anybody here who has worked on these and can help me find where the circuit even is for the vertical deflection?

                                          Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks
                                          by jm1234
                                          Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...
