Hello friends!

I am making an early thread on this, I just got 2 of these units (one with cracked screen parts pig) the other has a perfect screen just no picture.

I gutted the cracked screen unit took every board but the buffers as the person I got these from told me they powered the unit on with a busted screen and in my short time as a DIY repair geek when someone turns on a PDP with a cracked screen the buffers get shorted or has a high chance to damage them. I didn't have my fluke so I couldn't test.


Anyway, I have not gotten a chance to tear into the good condition unit yet. I am staring this thread to field what I should do next, it's obvious the unit has a working enough power supply to turn the unit on.

My question is what next? Is running the panel in its current state to get voltages a bad idea?

I cannot find a definite answer as to if this is a Y or X failure, I know threads like this are a crap shoot with out photos I will have some tomorrow.

This panel is a beast, 58" and super heavy much more so then my LG 60" PDP.

All fuses check out good.

I took a chance and powered on the unit, I hear humming from the x board and a a slight buzzBUZZbuzzBUZZ kind of sounds like oscillation back and fort between low and slightly louder buzzing from the Y board.

Va/Vs are in spec.

VSC -185 spec/ Actual bouncing between -125 to -113. Me thinks the y-main is shot.

I cannot find VE test point, I see VB and VBf on the xmain.

Tried the Ymain out of the cracked panel and same thing, low VSC.

Think maybe the Lower and Upper drive buffers are shot?

I tried to get the test patterns to show up by jumping pin 3-4 removing the LVDS cable and then powering on the unit.

No dice.

since I am waiting for parts on the LG, I would like to see about getting some help tracing down the issue for this Samsung.

VSC voltage is bouncing all over the place lower then spec, its hitting around. I will be removing the buffers to see if that helps.

As for anyone who is following this thread i have an update, I have got the TV working, well half of it anyway it seems that the second from the top buffer IC blew out catastrophically causing damage to the upper buffer board on the backside Blowing out a spot circle on the back of the PDP. so I'm going to have to track down another one but the TV seems to run fine with only the lower buffer.

All voltages are stable and in spec even after being on for 20 min. I was running the test patterns and then decided to switch to video just to see that work and it worked fine.

And fixed, I went back to scavenge the busted panel for its y-drive boards and tested them for shorts and they tested out great so I put the upper Ydrive buffer in and its up and running and the picture looks great.

I do have a new old stock upper Ydrive coming I think I will put that in to be safe but I am sure this buffer would be fine.

Hey pal I just ran across the same problem. TV turns on with chime and no picture. stops halfway through chime and continues to click. Also has LED lights on a board that are flashing non stop and a low sound clicking from another board on the left side of the TV. Can you help me? I am brand new to the repair and multi meter world and need some guidance

Log in and scroll down to video and TV issues and click on that and then
you will see new thread. I had same problem.
