I had a hitachi with blown Y-buffer ICs, but I was able to get a picture on parts of the screen after desoldering the bad ICs. Try to unplug all of the cables going into the Y-main and turn the tv on. Then plug the Y-main back in and unplug the X-main and see what happens then. Also the Vscan on my tv was acting weird (unstable), you should check it as well.
If you get a picture do not leave the tv on for very long with the Y-buffer with the removed IC. My tv just kept destroying more ICs, but maybe that was due to the unstable Vscan and not the missing ICs.

Ok Shopjimmy says this is the Samsung variant which means it has an upper y buffer as well as what looks like the lower buffer in your pics. If you install a good upper buffer and a good y main you should get a pic on the upper half of the screen. There is a youtube vid on how to test the buffers for shorts, maybe someone will post the link for you.
If there is a green led lit on your Ymain then it will need to be repaired as well. Keep in mind that bad buffers will destroy a good Ymain and vice versa so it's imperative you know the condition of these parts before proceeding.Leave a comment:

Honestly I'm not sure what's going on with it.
The bad buffer board extends down the entire left side of the set (as viewed from the rear) I removed the defective chip and powered the set up. No screen or anything. This is my first venture into plasma sets, so I'm not sure what to expect.
The lower long board is still attached and connected--as is the smaller board (the 'z' board I believe) on the right side of the set.
Kinda wondering what I should be getting and not getting. I also unplugged the large connector that the blown chip interfaces with. I would have at least expected to get a picture with a large 2" bar in the middle of it...but nothing.

Let's try it this way.
Power supply repair seems to have gone well.
One of the buffer chips went up in smoke. The only thing on the screen was some flashing white dots/flickers along the same "2 Inch wide" track. Rest of the screen is still dead.
I did find another blown capacitor on the Y-Board..and I'm a bit P/O'd.
On the lighter side I did manage to remove the surface mount chip and it's glue. (nail polish remover, exacto knife, and a lot of patience.)
Chip is 3289F
Need direction on how to proceed. Do I call this and part out the working boards? Or can I try to repair things.

This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

I have a very strange issue with the BIOS SPI chip of an ASRock B650M PRO RS motherboard.
The SPI chip is an Winbond 25Q256JWEQ model (1V8).
The motherbaord doas not POST - it lits only CPU and DRAM EZ Debug Leds, and stays that way forever.
The Flashback function of the motherbaord is also not working, despite all instructions followed correctly - I'm 100% sure of this.
I have then desoldered the chip, backupped the contents, and tried to earease the chip in order to program stock image, but the chip is locked by status registers SREG2 (TB) and SREG6... -
Problem
This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached.... -
When replacing the screen of this MacBook model, the DP855A chip must be moved from the existing screen for the screen to operate properly.
However, when I removed the DP855A chip from the existing screen, I must have done something wrong and the chip broke.
Testing the chip pins with a multimeter revealed a short circuit inside the chip.
Is it impossible to repair this? I couldn't find a programmer for this chip, nor any eeprom programmer software....04-19-2024, 08:51 PM -
Hi all,
I'm interested in understanding how a buffer board chip is working. I know there's about 90 outputs per chip to the plasma panel, but I'm more interested to know about the input pins. I guess that some of them are address pins, but I want to know more.
So far I've found nothing at all. I haven't found any datasheet about the various buffer chips, and I haven't found any schematic for the buffer board using them (Y Buffer Board in Samsung's terminology).
Any information will make me happy. It can be from any buffer chip or plasma TV manufacturer....
