    "Fried" my Vizio 550nv

While changing a light switch in my kitchen, I inadvertantly touched the hot and ground together in the switchbox. It tripped the circuit breaker immediately. The TV apparently shared the same circuit and was on at the time of the incident.
The TV now , when turned on, will only show the Vizio logo screen for a minute or two then shut down. Then the vizio light at the bottom of the tv will flash from amber to white for a few minutes then goto the logo screen and shutdown after a minute or two. This repeats until it is unplugged.

I have tried the cold reset. I took the back cover off and visually inspected the boards and components and found no obvious issues. I checked all the fuses I could find and found them to be unblown.

A new TV of the same type and size will run me almost $600. A repair from a professional will run me close to $350 and only be warranteed for 90 days.

Which board should be my first replacement? Should I roll the dice and buy used ones and hope I replace the correct one the first time? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy new?

Thanks for your input in advance

I would do some basic checks on the power supply first otherwise you will be just throwing money at it.

I agree, check the power supply first, many times the power supply will have weak caps. but as long as there is a/c power supplied the power supply will still operate. Once you remove the a/c for a while, the power supply won't start back up again. I see lots of people blaming so called power surges on their power supplies failing when it was actually ready to fail at any time.

            +1
TV's, satellite recieivers etc. left constantly in standby that refuse to switch back on, on the rare occaision it has lost power or been switched off to be moved is not uncommon due to capacitors in the switch mode power supply drying up.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...

              Vizio M65-C1
              by mrtek
              Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel
              by howardc64
              Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

              Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
              by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
