it took me about 10-15 reseats each connector and finally got all the thin black lines out and the large black strip...........FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the bottom line is i bought a board from shop jimmy that was suppose to be good and i should assume its good...and because of that it took me a long time to fix the tv.....if the board was in working condition this tv would have been fixed 4 yrs ago and 350.00 less in cost.......when i installed shop jimmys board and it didnt fix the tv i then started swapping other boards with no results and spent hundreds of hours trying to figure out what the issue was....even bad panel was thought.....all becuase shop jimmy sold me a defective part........

that is not acceptable any way you put it..........

I have always been the one to pick and choose my battles, you are free to do as you like but a purchase of 4 years ago and calling about it today to complain about it really wouldn't be a good use of time imo.

You fixed the TV that's great! but could it have been possible in the 4 years you have had the part that it could have been damaged by shipping or a mistake that was made on your part? I am in no way defending Shopjimmy and 4 years ago they could have been a lot less knowledgeable then they are today.

If this was more recent then I would say grab the pitchforks and torches and lets light the fire!

IMO and you can take it with a grain of salt, let it go, shit happens and in the end you won as you got the sucker working!


Maybe you can sell it and recoup some of the costs?

I can't find it now, but there's a Y-buffer board on ShopJimmy with a picture where the Vscan resistors are visibly blown... I hope that was just a scrap board they took a picture of but I can't assume that seeing the hassle Shelby here has had... I always thought they were more thorough in their testing.

no i havent tried...in bed now...3rd shifter 88hrs week

the bottom y is not shorted.......but the large black doesnt seem like a seating issue......im not that clumsy.....its connected pretty good....so i guess a buffer can be bad and not test shorted?

i am happy....i believe i now can save both of these zeniths even though i was told to trash them lol

Try reseating the y ribbon cables. Make sure they are clicked in all the way.

Did you try reseating these? ive read it some times takes a few attempts to get it right

Either a bad connection on the ribbons to the buffers or something wrong with the buffer most likely

thanks freak.......this has been 4yrs of hell all because of bad new parts.....im going to call shop jimmy and cuss them out....they cost me 350.00 in parts and hundreds of hrs of time....

what about the large black horiz area?....

Try reseating the y ribbon cables. Make sure they are clicked in all the way. Congrats!

also there are some really thin horizontal black lines going across top half screen......so if anyone can help me i would appreciate it.........the laerge black stripe is confusing me suince the lower buffers test not shorted......the thin lines could be reseating ribbon cable

and one thing i did learn is that when u buy a used board that is sold as working...there is a chance that its defective

and also i learned that just because someone says its a bad panel that can simply be a cop out answer.....

and i learned that coming in this forum and talking to several people and using the knowledge can result in success

and also i learned common sense can go a long way...........i had people tell me it was a z board issue and from my common sense when i was pluggin and unpluggin boards ....it didnt tell me z board was bad....i was pointing towards y or buffers...because of how tv acted when i was unplugging boards

update 12/914

i have some good news ...it seems i have some sort of picture now....i was finally able to get a non shorted y upper and used a new y that i bought a few yrs ago and the pink and white are now all gone......from the beginjing it now seems the y buffer i bought from shop jimmy was bad all this time and i didnt know....it threw me off track and thats why i changed the logic..the z and etc etc....but all this time i think it was a bad buffer anbd possibly y.........all the people that told me the panel was bad was just a cop out lol.............i stuck with it and i dont think im far from actually fixing this tv now

there is a slight issue now though part of the screen on bottom is black and i tested the lower buffers and thety are no shorted.....any ideas????

this has been one tuff tv to repair only because boards i bought were bad and i didnt know it......im going to try and post a photo of tv now

Just be very careful with Va connector... do not disconnect it with power plugged in, and check it has dropped to <5V before connecting again.

Totally agree. I just replaced our bedroom TV with a Panasonic Plasma. IMHO best plasma TV money can buy. The sony kdl-55hx729 that I replaced it with had blotchy black scenes. Like usual with led. TVs unfortunately.

But on your tv Shelby even with the ysus disconnected and the ribbons still connected to the buffers you should still be getting g a black image. So I think we're on to something now. What happens of you reconnect the Ysus and leave Zsus connected and disconnect the connector on the power supply for VA?

not long ago it would cost about $1500.00 to get a nice 50 inch projection tv.......now you can get a nice 50 inch led lcd tv for a measly $199.00

something that used to take someone a couple months worth of savings now can be bought basically in 1 days pay

its sad.......

Plasma TVs have superior image quality... anyone in the videophile business would agree. More natural. High colour depth. Better on 3D modes. High contrast and high region/peak brightness. But unfortunately, they could not compete with the store-mode LED TVs with their ultra bright screens (but terrible black level, motion response, ghosting, and backlight unevenness)
