you never know that upper buffer board might have been on its way out and that's why you had the black area covering the last 20% of the upper half of the screen and then it finally went. How do you even know the ysus is shorted? what happens when you install just a lower y buffer?

If the Y suatain is shorted it is going to short a buffer board it'll automatically blow the lower as soon as you turn it on I believe

i tested both upper and lower buffers prior to installing them today........they were both not shorted.....but now the upper buffer is shorted

but remmeber the upper buffer i bought was a "sub part" listed on encompass parts....and was not a matching set with the lower......

so it could be suspect....as being fully compatible

lower y buffer is not shorted

but the y sustain was bought 4 yrs ago on ebay and can not verify it is actually good..........it was sold as working but you know how that goes on ebay

prior to today entire display on 2nd zenith was pink white....ordered a sub part y buffer upper... was good prior to installing today.....tv powered on and i actually got a good pic on top 40% of display...lower 60% was black....then 2min later screen went entirely pink and white again......pulled y upper buffer out and its now shorted on all ics...

????????

Maybe the lower buffer is bad/shorted and took out the top. Is the lower board shorted?

Check the VSC voltage on your Y-sustain with no buffers installed.
I would say bad board over Y-sustain if pic was OK before.

ok just tested upper buffer....its now shorted on all 4 ribbon cable connectors....it was ok prior to installing todsy...so its either a bad y sus or y buffer compatibility issue

what do u think

and y sustain both heat sinks are warm....when tv on...will take out buffer to check for short....since screen now pink again

remember..this is the 2nd tv.....1st one seems fixed...and have had it on today for 2hrs still good

both had identical issues.....both z50p3 zenith

are you checking the Y sustain board for open resistors? I think there's a pair of two 100 ohm resistors in parallel that go belly up when there's a short on a buffer board it might be a simple fix

that should not do that. Unless the buffer sure did and loaded down the Ysustain board

I'm not sure about the compatibility between the different board pairs but maybe they cannot be mixed and matched? I thought I'd offer this. I have a pair of buffers here. They came out of the Zenith Z50P3 that had a bad power supply. I know for a fact that the Y-SUS and Z-SUS worked because I tested them in an LG set and sold them. The buffers however, are different in the LG version for whatever reason. I was scared to test them in it. That being said, I'd be glad to send these to you if you'd like to try them as a pair. I haven't tested them for shorts, but again, I'm quite confident they are good. Part numbers are EBR38447801 (BOTTOM) and EBR38447601 (TOP).

If I send them and they work, maybe you could just cover my shipping.

Let me know and shoot me a PM if you want them with your address.

lower buffer is not connected to the y sustain..it is connected to the y upper but i got other issues now....have to start over....for some reason display is pink and white again......going to have to do some more testing....

i now am going to leave the 1st tv on for a couple hours to make sure its ok

remember i have 2 of these exact tvs with same issue and 1st one i just "repaired" and now on 2nd one...

uh oh.....update....left 2nd tv on for 2 min and now the screen is pink and white again.......

back the to drawing board.......

okay if you leave just the lower buffer connected and the ribbon cables connected and it connected to the y sustain bored you should get a dull gray image the screen should light basically you see anything?

and if you look at shop jimmy the 2 parts ebr38447602 and ebr 37397801 they both are for model code 50pc3db-ue but have slightly different panel codes.

i wish i could test for 5v going to bottom buffer but seems to be hard to test....does anyone know how i can test 5v from upper to lower buffer? on my tv?...i tried berfore on 1st tv going from y to upper buffer and could never get a reading....even though the 1st tv does work ..the issue is what to use for ground .....so i can get a v reading

just seems bottom buffer isnt even firing up.....since bottom half of screen is black...and also another 10% of top half is black

hi ....me again....1st tv working great and put it all back together ....probably shouldnt have before i got 2nd tv fixed.... BECAUSE 2ND TV have not been able to get to work....i actually ordered a substitute part per encompass parts data the y upper in my tv orig is part # ebr38447602 but i bought ebr37397801 which encompass says was a direct substiturte even though shop jimmy says no........my tv model is

for whatever reason the board i just got when i install it ..like the other tv the pink is now gone but the top 40% of the screen is good now but the bottom 60% is black.......its not 50/50 its 40/60

i have reseated the cables 10 times from experience with 1st tv and the display absolutely does not change....the top and bottom board do not test short...i even have an extra good bottom buffer and installed it and no change at all to display.....

seems like part of top buffer isnt working and also seems no power going to bottom buffer.............could this be a part compatibility issue???

unfort i already put the other tv nack together which is a pain with all the screws...maybe ill take it apart and install the known good upper buffer that is orig part#.............but cant do it for a while........

was just wondering if somone could give me some advice on this new situation...

i really thought the 2nd tv would be exact same repair which it seems to be loooking that way..by how it acted when i installed good y upper buffer...but wondering if encompass parts has incorrect data on their site.....someone recommended that they are the most accurate parts data site....shop jimmy shows no substitute part for ebr38447602 but encompass does.....

any help would be appreciated
