EMERSON LC320EM8A peeled a cap off the main board...

this tv worked fine, just had a cracked screen. so i was going to part it out and put it on ebay...
i was trying to get the metal shield off the Main board when it snagged one of the capacitors and tore it off.

im not even sure what kind of capacitor you call these, and are they easily replaceable?

can i replace it with a regular electrolytic cap and just solder the wires to the pads, or do i have to get this same "can style" capacitor?

can i buy the replacement cap from this forum?

oh and what would probably happen if i tried to use this board like this? would it just not work, or could it actually damage something worse?

thanks in advance for answering my noob question!

          Looks like it to me.

Going by the photo, it looks like it's doing supply decoupling for the tuner module. I don't know if these typically require low ESR capacitors or not.

But... in a DishTV T1020 STB I just recapped, the tuner module had JFD TM series capacitors next to it, which are a Low-ESR series. I replaced them with Low ESR capacitors. The thing has been working perfectly for a couple of days so far.

Even if it doesn't need Low ESR, I can't imagine using Low ESR there would hurt anything.

It doesn't matter. Just about anything from a reputable manufacturer will be fine. I would recommend a cheap low ESR series for convenience's sake - then you can buy a few and have some spare.

For the record I used Rubycon ZLJ in mine - total overkill but I was already buying some for the PSU so it was easy and cheap to just add 2 more to the order.
