Not shown in the photo, but the HDMI IC also has a burn hole in it... and they are only termination capacitors/resistors not protection components unfortunately.

Ah. I thought they were ESD clamping diodes.

Well, it's my first TV out of nearly 95 with HDMI damage. I know it's much more common in USA - maybe because power surges / lightning are more common there

I guess the old one is beyond the challenge of repair? just noticed, 95 Tvs, I'm jealous, I think about 15 is all I've done, wow.

HDMI chip has a hole in it. Even if I were to try and remove it, no point having a 1080p TV without HDMI ports... it doesn't even have a VGA port so it wouldn't work as a PC monitor.
