BTW, some TVs come with "demo" or "vivid" mode on by default.

If you simply use a different mode or custom tune a mode, you can lower the brightness/constrast yet still get a good picture and lower power consumption and thus generate less heat.

For example, for TV watching, I might have my TV in APS (automatic power save mode). For movie watching, I have a custom setting that gives a great picture, but uses less power because I only watch blu-ray movies at night time.

Don't also forget about the HT receivers, blu-ray players, PVRs, etc that sit below the TV and generate heat which rises upward. They should also have good ventilation and clearance from the TV.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

On my very first electronics course, on the first day, we were told that the worst thing you could do to anything electronic was turn it on (!) Next worst thing was to turn it off..

Now I appreciate that this course I attended also covered glass tubes/valves, so was a while ago, but I still reckon this holds true. Don't shock anything too much by unnecessary turning on and off..

Like anything, there are pros and cons to both sides of the story.

I was doing some adjusting and it seems to me with lowering brightness and contrast a bit, the black levels seem better to me. Also as you and Tom stated the panel didn't seem as warm either. Adjusting some window light out of the room with the shades seems to help with the colors as well. As far as accessory boxes, they are a good distance away from the tv, and according to my hand, don't seem to be adding much heat. After being without my plasma for about 4 months and watching my mid '90s 32" Phillips/Magnavox CRT again, my cheap, I think it was $800 or so, 2 year old LG plasma looks great! I will say though, I've not had a bit of trouble out of my Phillips!
          Many Thanks!
          From my favoritest movie ever!:
Cledus Snow: Can I ask you a question?
Bo Darville: Sure, ask me what?
Cleedus: What the Hell do we want to go to Texas for and haul beer back here? What is that?
Bo: For the good old American life. For the money, the glory, and the fun. Mostly for the money.
