Ehhh.... There is something to be said about a simple design. Although it would have been nice for the designers to use some safe guards to prevent blowing/shorting ALL the semi conductors out. (From the look of that repair kit--I'd say that was probably common)

It is not a simple design - it is a CHEAP, crap design. There is a difference. Instead of a controller IC with clever logic in it which can detect a myriad of faults, they've got a ton of passive components, including multiple semiconductors which has no fault detection at all (save from the mains fuse.)

On a normal PSU the FET might blow... this may take out the controller but that's all. (A shorted diode on the secondary would never cause this with a good design.)

On this PSU if anything causes excessive load on the output it'll eat a bunch of FETs/transistors and in the worst case can damage the transformer and nearby passive components making it a right pain to fix.

ahh so basically they skimped on any "expensive" IC's and just used a pile of cheap resistors instead? think ill be trying to avoid these! cause even if i repair it, its bound to fail again eventually...and be a pain in the ass to fix every time!

not that im going to quit on this one or anything....

Harman Kardon sub TS11 (ds15 amplifer) blows fuse and mosfets
            by BlackScreen_22
Hi, I'll start by saying that I'm not an expert and I've reached a point where I don't know what to try/do anymore...
Starting from the beginning: I opened this subwoofer for the first time with a very strong smell of burnt electrical components, I realize that on the amplifier board there is a hole between V+ OUT and GND about the size of a finger, the damaged components were the shorted mosfets, two damaged zener diodes and two capacitors. I bought everything, I fixed the hole by cutting the pcb and putting a piece of a perforated board.
I had no problems connecting mosfets and capacitors,...

A funny fuse story – Lumix LX100 II
            by corrize
Hello, I disassembled this dead camera, and found this WTF… Two fuses soldered one above the other !
I was pretty sure nobody touched it before, but that can't be from factory. There is flux, and capacitor is probably missing.
            The other weird thing : the fuses are « G » fuse : (0.75A – 8V), seems very low. The original fuse should be « O » : (32V 2,5A).
There is « O » mark beside. All fuses have the same mark letter on main board. So, I can deduce it's a « O » fuse.
And this correspond to the issus I saw : when I plug the battery, I measure the voltage dropping...

            LG 60LN5400 Blows TCON Fuse
            by Michale32086
I could have sworn I posted about this before, but I can't seem to find the post..

            To whit..

I have a 60LN5400 that came in.. Backlights work fine.. No display..

Traced the problem to the TCON board.. Blown fuse..

Replaced the fuse.. Blows again.. Replaced the fuse again... This time it fries the marked part on the Main Video board...

Got a new Main Video Board.. Replaced the fuse on the TCON..

The fuse is fine and the backlights come on fine if I don't have the cellophane connectors from the TCON to the...

            LG 37LS5600 blows main fuse
            by dimis7
            Hi all,

Need some advice to troubleshoot this TV.

PSU blow the main fuse F100, 3.15A.

I replace the fuse with another 3A (but not ceramic) and blows it again after few seconds when i plugged in to the wall, with nothing connected to PSU, just the power cord.

I checked with DMM for dead sorts but didn't found any.

Checked bridge rectifier and seems ok.
Also check main filter cap with transistor / cap / esr tester (the usual cheap transistor testers from ebay) and found ok.

            PSU p/n is EAX64405901 (1.6)...

Samsung UE46ES8000 Blown fuse but no other signs of short
            by jesterace
Hi I wonder if anyone might be able to steer me in the right direction. I have this Samsung UE46ES8000 TV and it went bang during use. The main fuse on the PSU board is open. I've checked every diode/mosfet/transistor I can see and nothing appears to be short to cause the fuse to go. The DC output of the bridge rectifier is not short either. I've seen online that some of these models are known for having their PFC mosfet or other mosfets shorting and blowing the fuse but i'm not seeing that here. If anyone aware of these models having any issues to cause this? I'm reluctant to just replace the...
