Sony XR-55A80J OLED TV 5 blinks - Troubleshooting steps

    Hi there,
I see a couple of posts related to the troubleshooting of similar TV. The one I have is acting slightly differently and I'd love your help.

So it has the 5 blinks. Previous owner got a TCON, no luck. Got a new Main board (though he didn't do the USB firmware update), again, no improvements.

I see 2 posts that are relevant:
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...j-oled-5-blink
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...grade-possible

So I disconnected the Main board from the circuit. Added a jumper between PWR_ON, TCON_12_ON and EVDD_ON and STBY

Now all I get on the screen is backlight (screen lit up) but no colors on the screen.
The EVDD on the TCON is 18.8 V
    The TCON_12 is 12.76 V
Note that with TCON disconnected, the above voltages don't change much.

I saw in other posts that EVDD should be higher? but I don't know maybe the 55" (Smaller) can live with lower voltage?

Any suggestions on how to proceed?
    Thank you

      Hi,
This is the original TCON and Main board, I'm told. He bought them and when they didn't fix the TV he returned them.
Yes, I'm aware there is no BL in the light-bulb sense, but I wasn't sure how to describe. I can provide photo shortly, but there is no hint of color or any activity other than you can tell it's on

You forgot to connect one LVDS cable. We tried replacing these two LVDS cables with others; they're a common problem with Sony.

Sorry, just so I understand... I need to connect the upper LVDS between the main board and the TCON or connect both LVDS cables? Even with the main board not powered?

So to speed things up... I tried with one lvds cables connected at a time then with both and no change. Nothing is coming on the screen other than being lit up

connecting LVDS not required , because the MB already disconnected from PSU.
yours T-CON didnt start to make the Pattern , you need OLED Tester.. which will feed 3.3V via the lower 51Pins LVDS an T-CON

one things more... if you remove the jumpers. and connect MB to PSU. just unplug the lower 51Pin LVDS from MB Side, turn on... did yours set come on and the Optic Port lit red ?

if the test above you have Optic port lit red and remain the set OB.( screen stay black) do the second steps
connect the LVDS 51 OIN back, disconnect only the EVDD socket ( black) from T-CON side.. turn on if the OPTIC lit red and set remain ON, then plug the TV from Wall, press power on set pull it down if you have Joystick,, keep pressing then plug the set back to wall... release the pressing only after the front LED change from White to green... leave the set in this state it will hard reset... could reboot 2-3 time... give time for it till you start to hear the Melody of first install and remain on for about 10 minute or more.... at this state while its on and you hear the Melody plug back the EVDD socket at its place the screen will come on... give attention on it or record it to sea if it clear or not

Ok, when I remove all jumpers and disconnect the 51pin LVDS, the Optic port is lit red and remains red

I should buy a OLED tester? any recommendation? this TV is 2022 manufacture date. Any specific tester I need?

So with everything connected normally, except for EVDD (Black) connector disconnected from TCON, the TV starts (No White front LED) rather goes directly to 5 Red Blinks.
I proceeded to second step just to try, however the TV never goes into "Green" Color. I pressed the power button close to minutes, but no luck. No Melody either.

                          Sony XR-55X90J 5 blinks
                          by matwan
                          Hello,

                          I have problem with SONY 55X90J. After several check status is as below;
                          1. Running power board as stand alone:

                          TCON_12V =~ 12.6V
                          EVDD V On Max 24V= 19V.

                          2.
Running power board with TCON as stand alone:

                          Effect as below, attched.

                          3. When bottom LVDS cable is disconnected no blinks, but of course no TCON 12V and EVDD.
"I'm almost sure it's a defective panel, but maybe someone has encountered a similar issue on their screen.

                          Best regards....

                          by Dogindelusion
Hi everyone! I am a new member and am new to electronics repair. I have a background in electrical engineering, but little experience in electronics.

I have a Sony XR-77A80K which will not turn on and has 5 blinking red lights in the stand-by light. I had previously done a forced factory reset, which removed the error code, and the TV regained functionality for a few weeks. I repeated the factory reset and again regained functionality. This happened a few times until I so I had to begin troubleshooting the error.

                          Observations:
                          1) I noticed I was not getting...

Sony XBR-75X940E intermittent 6 blinks error code
                          by GoodCapDude
Hi everyone. First post on Badcaps!

I am trying to fix a Sony 940E from 2017 that either starts normally (and works perfectly until turned off) or goes straight to the 6 blinks error code without showing anything on the screen. It is frustrating to know that it can still work perfectly but is barely usable because of the difficulty starting it up. I am willing to try to short the BL_ERR but I would like to avoid that if possible. Does anyone have a view on this? Thanks a lot....

Hello, my Aunt recently gave me her broken Sony XBR-65A8G OLED after getting a replacement. It had a 4x led flash error, a replacement T-con didn't fix the error but with helpful info from this forum I found one of the smd ceramic caps on the panel pcb (C575/C378) on a 24v line was shorted to ground. I removed that cap and the tv turned on without error. It still had a black screen with the original t-con back in it, once I put the replacement t-con in it finally had a picture. After doing a panel refresh it had a very good picture but with a few vertical lines for some scenes. For owners with...
