    TC-40A420U

    Hey all,

I have this TV that's ideal. It's a Panasonic TC-40A420U. What I love about it is that it's 42" and perfect size for a spot on the wall. And it's NOT a "SmartTV". I just want it to take a signal and show it to me.

My problem: (and for those who don't want to gag on TLDR stuff...)
I turn it on and the screen displays for a sec, and then shuts off. Power LED flashes repeatedly. Yes, there's a pattern. Yes, I've found some related service info from "sibling/cousin" models MFG'd around that time. No, the info has not led me to the root cause which I suspect is a board SMD component, resistor, trace, or other. I have two power boards, and two signal boards. TNPA6029 (pwr) and TNP4G565 3 A (Main/signal board)

just wondering if anyone has, or has access to any deeper info than what a moderate deep dive internet search can provide.

I am able. I have multimeter, microscope and o-scope access.

Just looking for info or advice

THANKS IN ADVANCE - and I mean that. I appreciate, I know what it's like.

    Have a great day!

You have about a 2014 model, likely bad backlights, get yourself a backlight tester if you don't have one, they are very useful. You will get more accurate help with good focused straight on pictures. One of each board and one of the whole back as to see how everything is connected.

Garage door RX unit (Cardin S38C) does not short relay to send opening signal
      by CoinCoin88
      Hello everyone,

I'm turning to the Badcaps community to help me troubleshoot the radio Rx card from my (old) garage door opener. While I could just ditch that card and replace the whole system, I first would like to understand "why" it suddenly stopped working, because that's just how I am wired...!

Some basics: the receiver works on a 30.875 Mhz frequency. Yes, I'm aware this is not in use anymore in a looot of places. It does not use any rolling code, it's just a regular dip-switch code that you have to set up on both the receiver and transmitter. The receiver...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel
      by howardc64
      Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

      Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

      Good morning.

I have posted here before and have gotten AMAZING advise (thank you!). I'm back for more. This BCaps Sub Forum is so well attended I thought I would post here.

PS4 fat has inconsistent signal after HDMI replacement
      by supravit2000
      Hi, guys!

I am not a professional, all I can do is solder stuff on the boards, so I would really appreciate it if someone with knowledge shares his experience/thoughts on a problem I have with a PS4 console.

My friend gave me an original fat PS4, board model SAB-001, with WLOD, that has been previously opened. I changed the HDMI port, couple of pads on the board were ripped, which I connected to the corresponding caps/resistors? Just did so as in a shown diagram (one of the ground pads I ripped off and left it not connected). However, there was still no signal, so...

What is a normal composite signal range for a C64?
      by Scruit
      Hello all,

Working on my first C64 / Breadbin / 250407. Purchased as non-working. Getting black screen.

More detail below, but for those that want to get right to the question.... Here are a few waveforms comparing the Pin15 output on the VIC chip (luma/sync) to the pin 4 on the AV socket (composite signal).

      https://imgur.com/gallery/PpqcqPY

My question is: Is the composite waveform range of 0.1v-1v too low for a c64?

      More detail:

Symptoms are that that I get...
