Panasonic 42" plasma #42PZ80U electrical storm damage

Hello everyone and thanks for reading my post.

Here's what I have: 42" Panasonic plasma HDTV model #42PZ80U from 2008. I'm pretty sure the issue is the result of a recent electrical storm. When I turn it on with the remote, the red light comes on and you can see a change in the screen but nothing else happens. It does not seem to respond to the remote at all with the exception of turning it on. The remote will not turn it off and it doesn't respond to any of the keys. It also does not respond to the buttons on the front of the set. The red LED is solid with no blinks and the unit will power cycle about every 5 minutes on its own. I can unplug it and then plug it back in and hear a slight click from within the set. I have removed the back and can see no evidence of burning or damage to capacitors to my untrained eye. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction for diagnosing and repairing this.

    Thanks in advance

Does sound like the A board is zapped. I don't think repairing the board would be an option except to send it off for repair, Moduslink do them .

    http://www.moduslinkptstvboards.com/tnph0721ads/

I think with these you can disconnect, A5(LVDS cable), A6,A7, power on and produces full white screen, works on my 46PZ800, or A5, P6,P7.
Had to push the power button to turn it on, there will be no front LED indication, not on mine at least.

If the LVDS is left in, mine goes to a gray, primed screen.

Since you said the screen changes and then the TV seems locked up, I'm going with bad A board.

If you try the above , that proves everything else is good.

May be your board, you'll have to check what revision is yours or post a very clear picture topside showing the area of the board where SUFFIX is and any labels or markings.

There's also a Pz80UA with different board so check before you order something.

    note , no returns mentioned.

This is a 42pz85U, I think that may work just that it has a VGA port which your back panel won't have a cutout for.

OK I removed A5, A6 and A7 powered on and got a full white screen just as you said. I have attached pic of board and I think TNPH0721 3A is what I'm looking for. Is this correct?

Thank you very much for the help.

          NO,

TNPH0721 is the main part number and under that it has a suffix matrix to work out the rev, could be AJ but we need a clearer closeup as it's blurred.

It's a bank of jumpers they put one next to the rev letters to indicate.

              Suffix AJ, I think.

Rats, It happened again. This same TV you guys helped me fix 4 years ago got zapped by lightning again. This time I have video screen but it doesn't see any input. I can scroll through the menus and change the input selection but that's it. I have no power cycling like before and there's no clicking sound. Could it possibly be the A board again? Maybe I should try the earlier mentioned test again?

                      Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks
                      by jm1234
                      Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

Panasonic ZT60 plasma tv with strange behavior and 8 blink code
                      by cloo
I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.

So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...

Panasonic Plasma TH-50PZ85U No screen No blinks on red power light
                      by Alicat
                      Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

                      Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...

Panasonic P42S30 Plasma - Pink sparkles
                      by Lintesir
My parents' Panasonic P42S30 died recently, and they asked me to have a look at it. I was able to identify the SN-board as the culprit, as it was shorted. After removing Q401, Q402, Q421 and Q422 the short was gone, so I replaced these components and that got the TV working again. However, when testing the tv a bit, I noticed quite bad pinkish sparkles on some colors. For instance the greyish bar on this forum seems to trigger it quite badly. I made a fullscreen test picture with only that color, with the below result.

There is about a 5cm high region at the top without any sparkles,...

Dead Panasonic Viera TX-P65STW50 Plasma TV
                      by badcappo
Hello, got a ST50 plasma TV for repair. No signs of life, not even blink codes. Opened it up to check the power supply, type MPF6914. Apparent issues from visual detection and measuring for shorts:
                      Diode type G972s6 - D101 with a short
                      Mosfet 06N90E - Q301 shorted
                      Fuse T5AH 250V - F103 blown
                      Diode D301 shorted
                      Relay DG1U-17VDC II - RL001 blown

I have not found a circuit diagram. Maybe someone here already dealt with a similar issue? Thanks for tips where else to check 😀...
