Re: RCA 42PA30RQ Playing The 'Let's Swap PCBs' Game

I replaced the Y-Main and the main power boards....

I still get no picture, no light and just a couple pairs of clicks...

I can get an X-Main board for around $35... By process of elimination, I am running out of boards to replace..

What are the chances that it's a display issue???

Through all of this chopping/changing and getting nowhere,--Did you ever try running the set--With the Buffer-Boards disconnected, and everything else connected....?

--First check I do with symptoms like that.....

I'll bet a buffer chip is stuffed.....

OK, I completely removed the buffer board..

No change in behavior. I still get the blue power light on and the click-click.. click-click.. click-click...

While checking the prices for a replacement buffer board, I came across something interesting. The same boards that go in this 42PA30RQ are also for a VIORE set.. Just so happens I have a VIORE in my shop with a bad display..

Anyways, turns out the boards are the same, but the VIORE is a 50" and the RCA is a 42..

            So, no luck there...

If anyone needs boards from a 50" of this RCA type set, let me know..

Yes, I did finally get that RCA fixed. It turned out to be the Y-buffer and it was blowing the y-main and x-main every time I replaced one of them.
It worked for over a year at Miss Lillie's house and went down again. Now I am back to square one. Replaced X and Y mains along with Y-buffer and still no life. I think I am getting bad boards? This is absolutely the most difficult TV I have ever worked on. I think it is finally going to the scrap pile unless one of you guys wants it!
