Samsung LE32A336J1N - Standby and nothing else

    Hello,

My Samsung LE32A336J1N LCD TV, just stays on Standby, doesn't turn on.

I have basic solder and components knowledge but i'm no expert by any means.

I've checked the capacitors, and i see no budge or leaked ones.

What I've noticed is a faint clicking noise from the power supply, and i think it's coming from one or maybe from both, the component marked on the attached picture.

What can it be? How can i diagnose it any further?

Do you guys have any suggestion?

    Regards.

can we have a clear and upclose picture from the power supply?

Take a photo of the underside of this board.
      Check for cold joints.

        Of course, martino.

That picture was taken with my cellphone, I've taken better pictures with a real camera, please see the attached pictures.

I really appreciate your help, and thank you.

On connector cm802,can you find the standby voltage? I believe its 5.3 volts? Is it stable?
Same plug,ps-on,whats the voltage there and is it stable? (might have to try and turn tv on to get a reading... )
put multimeter on 20volt DC,black probe on tv metal frame, red probe on connector wires...

I'm sorry martino, i've had a hard time understanding what you are asking me.

Where is the connector cm802? Can you place a circle on one of these photos, please?

"Same plug,ps-on,whats the voltage there and is it stable? (might have to try and turn tv on to get a reading... )"

What do you mean by this?

I do have a multimeter i can use to test the voltage of the connection, just point me in the right direction and i will give the readings.

Hamie, please see the attached pictures, for underside of the board.

"Where is the connector cm802?" It is on the that board, it is a black double-row socket where the flat grey ribbon cable with white connector is connected to, you can also see the label for each pin function. See your picture #3 post #4.

Thank you budm, I eventually found out the connector, when looking closely to the board.

But i still can't get the reading, i tried without the ribbon cable and with a multimeter on pin 7 counting from top left, where it says it gives 5.3V and i get nothing, but I'm not sure I'm placing the red and black probes on the right spot.

One thing that happened is when i plug the power cord without the ribbon cable, the backlight turned on, although no picture or menus could be access.
                  This may help you guys.

Thanks again everybody for helping me.

Okay, I've done some further testing, placing a red probe on the STB5.3V pin and the black probe on GRD, and the reading is 5.14V steady, with only the power supply board not even connected to the TV.

OK, so if you connect it to the main board what happens? Does it drop or remain steady?

Can you please elaborate on how can i have it connected to the mainboard and get a reading with a multimeter? I was using the solder joints on the underside of the power supply, if you connect everything as it's suppose to be, i can't access the underside of the power supply.

                        Thanks for your support guys.

You can probe the connector, right where the wires go into the plug, often the probes of the multimeter are thin enough to reach in there,if not,you can insert a paperclip or something.

Okay, I've done it, and i get the same 5.13V as before. Even if i try to press the on button of the TV, nothing changes 5.13/5.14V.

What can we conclude from this?

So let's recap, with only the power supply i get 5.14V, when i connect the power supply to all the other components, i get 5.13V.
Also please bear in mind the clicking noise i noticed and reported on the first post.

Thanks guys, your help has been precious.

Can you see a part # written on the board marked "BN44" and some digits? That might get us a schematic.

Edit: Nevermind - Saw it - BN44-00252A. Can't find a schematic at the moment, though.

On the legend next to the connector going to the main board, can you see a pin marked "PS ON" or "PSON"? Can you check the voltage on this pin? (Same method as for the standby voltage.)

Re: Samsung LE32A336J1N - Standby and nothing else

How about voltages on the other pins? power on/off inverter on Dim and so on.

Ideally you need to do this three times one when its all connected up and mains on but
not pressing the on button. Two when its all connected and the on button pressed.
Three (you may need a helper) Set off with it as in "one" then while it is being turned on
probe each pin and record what happens. Maybe nothing maybe a voltage that stays
(test for 5 seconds or so) maybe the voltage rises then falls back, Maybe a voltage that is there drops.

Re: Samsung LE32A336J1N - Standby and nothing else

I've tested what tom66 suggested, i couldn't found a pin PS ON or PSON but i found "Power ON/OFF" i guess that was it.

I noticed something, each time i ear a click the voltage rises to ~4V then drops to 0V.
Each click are 2 seconds apart, more or less.

Can you explain what pins you want me to test it, selldoor?
Please check the attached picture so you can see the pins.

OK, so when POWER ON is LOW (i.e. less than about 1V) the 13V output should fire up. For now just check the 13V. See if it turns on or not.

I've tested it, since there are 3 pins called 13V Main, i tested one of them.

The behavior is similar to the Power ON/OFF pin, when i hear a click, the voltages goes to ~11V and then it drops to ~2V, repeating itself in every click +/- 2 seconds apart.
