Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ80U right side black

Well, as the title says, my 2008 plasma Panasonic has a black right side (looking at the screen). The left side is readable, but being a multitude of incorrect colours and the sound is fine with no blinking red power light. Ive unplugged it overnight, tried again in the morning and same problem.

My wife was watching tv when it happened, the TV having been on for about 20 minutes when suddenly the right side went out. Ive checked all the exterior cable connections, the only thing I havent tested is our satellite receiver as that would require a lot of shuffling of TV's. The other TV works fine so if it is the sat. receiver, its the output to my plasma.

Ive built my own computers for years and have no problems digging into the guts, but before I do this to a TV I need my ducks in a row because I havent done that before.

I must say this forum has an AMAZING amount of information!

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Loose LVDS cable is a good possibility. I fixed a 46" PZ80 with this fault and kept it for about a year before giving it to a friend. Here's a video:

Should apply to the 50" as the 46" is nearly the same (the 42" is slightly different, but issues with LVDS cables also affect them.)

Hi again, Ive wiggled the cables along the bottom of the set, finding one that reseated itself with a very quiet click, just to the left of the flash glare....hopefully the file loads lol. Is this the LVDS cable?

I tried entering the diagnostic screen but pressing volume down on the set while hitting 0 on the remote 3 times quickly produced no results. Is this procedure different on the 50" than on the 46" in the video?

Do I need the TV hooked up to an incoming signal such as the dish or dvd?

Yours is a US model so it's a different procedure to enter service menu. Did the reseat resolve the problem?

No, it didnt. I was going to go through all the cables shortly, was just waiting for my 30 minutes since unplugging it so I dont get zapped. I should have got on this sooner but its summer and the outside 'honey do' list is quite long this year

The cable you need to wiggle is right near the power supply, running between the A board and D board. It's brown or red, many thin wires.

Just make sure it's securely seated, and it should be perfect - mine was good for over a year and went through a couple of house moves no problem.
