Looking for help diagnosing a 65" Panasonic Viera TV - TH-65DX700Z (Turns on - Clicks - Turns off)

    Hi Badcaps,

I've had a friend discard a TH-65DX700Z Pansonic Viera Television and I've decided to have a go at repairing it. If possible could I please get some advice in terms of diagnosing the problem so I can purchase the appropriate parts for repair whether it be components, a repair kit or a replacement board. I am happy to post pictures if required.

    TV Details:

    Model # - TH-65DX700Z

    Symptoms:

The television turns on and displays a picture then makes a clicking sound and turns off.

I haven't opened it up yet but I'm guessing the problem is either coming from the Power PCB. I'll be dismantling it to take photos of the various boards in case there is something visible as well as list the part #'s and take voltage measurements from the Power PCB to check all the voltages are ok.

While I'm pretty good at spotting bad capacitors I wouldn't know what i'd be looking for in terms of most other faults that causes this or what diagnosis process I would go through so any guidance would be appreciated.

If you are able to point me in the direction of an eBay product (such as a repair kit) that repairs this series of TV's that would be great or guide me in terms of troubleshooting it and diagnosing it to a specific board to either repair or replace (Both the P Board and the PB Board i've been able to find on eBay)

Could you please let me know if you are able to assist? I'm happy to take pictures, measurements or check various components as well as follow troubleshooting guidelines if you think you can help me get to the root of the problem and I'd be very appreciative for any assistance any post my results as I go.

Thanks in advance for anyone able to offer me some troubleshooting advice in terms of how to bring this excellent TV back to life!

Update: I found the service manual with the board schematics in at the following link:

      Yep too true.

I ended up dismantling the TV and diagnosing the faulty part to the P Board. I took pictures along the way and I've added them to this post.

In regards to the TV, more specifically the symptoms are as follows:

      * It clicks on as normal, displays, clicks off and then the P Board clicks *

The Service Manual has the P Board part # as TNPA6060(1)[P] however upon dissassembly I found the P Board to have a different Part # in the TH-65DX700Z series of TNPA6060(2)[P]. The TNPA6060(1)[P] as noted in the service manual is actually a slightly different board and incompatible with this model despite it being in the service manual as the correct replacement part.

I've attached photos if you'd like to see what it looks like disassembled. I took some close up photos of the components however I couldn't see anything physically wrong with either the P or the Sub P Board aside from them being a bit dusty (No discontinuity on fuses, caps are mint) - It looks to be an easy diagnosis of the P Board.

If it's of interest I had several friends buy the same TV model at the same time and all of them faulted in the same way.

So far I've diagnosed it to the point of the correct part to get to fix it *should* be the P Board with the Part # TNPA6060(2)[P] which is readily available on eBay. If you'd like to look at the pictures of diassembly I've added them to this post. I'd also be happy to attempt to diagnose it to a specific component on the board and I have all the testing gear to check most components out if you're able to point my in the right direction.

I've attached pictures of the disassembly and the suspect board as well as what the whole TV looks like dissasembled. Thanks for your reply

Hopefully these help someone in the future that may be diagnosing one of these as it's quite hard to find pictures of the TH-65DX700Z/A series disassembled on the net. Thanks

This setup of 2 power boards appears almost strange to me, the left P. board is the main power board, the center one is the backlight power board, but i'm unable to comprehend how it is arranged and its scheme, further i note it's very very strange how the P board has a very slim secondary section with one minuscule el.cap. only... more than this...
DONT BUY ANY POWER BOARD until you made a minimal or correct troubleshooting, you did nothing until now.. my suspicion is first the tcon board, so...

Test 1: detach the 2 bands from main board to tcon and then test the tv, if it stays on with sound and backlight for at least 10 munutes, i guess P. boards and main.boards are ok..
Test 2: detach main board from the rest, then solder a thick jumper wire from P board 12v out to tcon fuse 12v input, turn on power and watch the screen making the WBRGB self test, if it stops after a while then you have a fault at screen/tcon: if test is visually always perfect then > TCON fault, otherwise lcd panel fault..

an italian message, not for you: Dai porca madonna sono stufo di scrivere co sto cellularino di mmer*a , quand'è che mi procuro un caXXo di tabet???
        Sorry..

Thanks for your comment Davi.P, very helpful with my limited TV diagnosis experience.

I appreciate you telling me how to diagnose specific boards in terms of isolating it to a specific board. Another problem I found is both the fact that the service manual has the wrong Part # for the P Board rendering schematics potentially useless in terms of testing voltage ouputs unless searching up that boards schematics. Also from the various TV's I've pulled apart or fixed I expected there to be a marked pinout on the boards though there is none to at least run a multimeter test on the outputs so you'd be running off tthe service manuals diagrams alone testing the voltages are correct at least to my understanding plus that 12V you mentioned might be hard to find considering most in or outputs are hardly labeled on the actual boards.

Because the TV is quite large I'm waiting until I have enough space to take it apart again and run it through the diagnostic tests you've suggested. I'll post all the results of this diagnosis when I'm able to pull it apart again. I haven't bought any components yet just in case someone popped in and posted correct diagnostic procedures, just noted the prices to get the boards shipped into my country (New Zealand)

The P Board is approximately $157 NZD shipped here (about $70 USD)

With the instructions you have given, as far as I can gather, I should be able to rule out various boards so I'm very appreciative for your help. If there was an obvious fix to a board rather than buying a replacement board I'd rather do that but the information these TV's and repair seems rather limited. I have desoldering tools and all of the testing tools if you think it might be a specific component on a board rather than the actual board.

I'll update this post once I have run the various tests and I'll take pictures of the process in case anyone runs into this same issue seeing as it seems quite common with these or similar models.

Oh and... Grazie

MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro Turns on functions then turns off when I plug in USB C cable to reset the computer. I disconnect the battery fully and then reconnect it and it won't turn back on. After letting it sit for a day I plug the battery back up, and the MagSafe 3 cable and it powers on and stays ons, once I plug in a USB C cable into the port closes to the MagSafe port it turns off and the Amber light turns off and won't turn on. No water damage, nothing, I want to do a DFU restore to wipe the computer since the customer stated they did an update and ever since it just decided to not work...

LG L192WS-BN backlight turns off after 1 second
            by www
I am testing an old LG L192WS-BN monitor I have that gives an image, but has a backlight issue. When you turn it on the backlight turns on 1 second and it turns off, turns on again, 1 second and it turns off and stays off. Using a flashlight I can see there's still an image.

I replaced a bulged cap on the main board, but made no difference. I also got another exact same model monitor that has a broken ccfl (the connector got ripped from the panel and the main screen connector is also broken so I can't use this panel to test), tried using the main board from this one, same issue....

Philips 58PUS6809/12 doesn't turn on - LED turns on for a second and TV clicks
            by Tyrmas
            Hi all!

A few days ago my TV suddenly turned off while watching Netflix from my media PC. Only connected cables were HDMI and TOSLINK. It immediately started doing this loop where the power led turns on for a second and then turns off. You can also hear a click inside the TV every time.

I tried the easy stuff first like disconnecting everything including the power cord but that didn't fix the issue.

Now I opened the TV to check if there are any bad capacitors but as far as I can tell, they look okay.

I've attached a few pictures and...

Samsung UE55F8000SZ Turns on and off immediately
            by Egidio85
good morning, I have a samsung UE55F8000SZ tv that turns on, shows the logo and turns off after 1-2 seconds.
This defect happens continuously, hearing the classic click of the relay every time.

            Power supply board BN44-00636B

disconnecting the mains and lamps from the power board always causes the same problem.
Is it normal that without anything connected this power supply turns on and off cyclically?
any suggestions on what to check?

            thanks in advance
