Sylvania LC321SSX weirdness (flickering with faint menus)

I was driving down the street and saw two people throwing away a 32" LCD TV. I pulled up and asked them if I could take it. They said that the TV went bad after someone knocked it over. The TV is a Sylvania LC321SSX.

I took the thing home and powered it on. The screen would flicker with a gray tint with the words "Digital Television" apperaing faintly in the background. After being on for 2-5 seconds, the TV would go into standby mode.

I took the TV apart and reseated the connections. The TV seems to stay on, but the screen still flickers (photo attached). All of the buttons work and the menus are faintly visible.

I found a repair manual for it here:
    http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...69837884,d.b2k

What do you guys thing could be wrong with it? Many thanks!

If the tv went bad after someone knocked it over then I would look for broken circuit board traces or maybe the panel got cracked somewhere. remove the boards and look at them very carefully.

I think I found the problem. The ribbon cable and the assembly on the LCD circuit board were charred (this was underneath one of the metal covers for the panel). There was a hole that burned completely through the ribbon cable.

Looks like water damage to me. Perhaps water was spilled on it when it was knocked over, or they meant that someone knocked water on it... Is the ribbon on the top or bottom of the screen?

I see. Thanks! The ribbon is on the bottom of the screen, and the melted circuit board is the one attached to the LCD panel (the T-Con board on the other end looks ok). I'm guessing this won't be a worthwhile fix, considering the damage.

It could be fixable, but probably the only way is to replace that connector

ACER BM320 Monitor - Horizonal Flickering Lines After a While
              by reessi
              Hello,

The monitor started off showing flickering thin (1 pixel) lines horizontally every say 3mm..

They are black on the right and gradually fade to nothing on the far left.
They start either after 5 mins or up to 2 hours after so annoying for testing.
They flicker continuously very fast! With a slight pause milli-second every second.

Initially I cleaned the LVDS cable and connected to the T-Con and then it worked fine for 3 weeks but not sure if this was just co-incidence.

I tested each half by removing the first the left flex from...

Hello everybody! It's been nine years and I'm back again with the same monitor that several people here helped me fix back then. The first time, I replaced two caps as was recommended here and the original problem was solved. Then it started acting up a few years later and I came back for a parts list and replaced a few more caps (I didn't make a post about that and don't remember which ones), and again the problem was solved. This time, however, I'm not sure if it's caps.

The monitor stays on but certain colors will flicker. Generally it's darker colors like dark greys or dark blues,...

              by arctor
Hi, I have this tv a LG 55UH661V that show flickering images and lines. I tried to take off one at time the right and the left ribbon cable and put the tape for ask the pin…but nothing working. Or I stop to have picture or still flickering. Someone can help me to understand what pin I have to mask? What I notice the buffering board, the flat cable becomes very hot, I don’t think it s normal, I’m talking about the orange flat cable soldering on the buffering board, both side are very hot. I give you the photo with both the ribbon cable on and a photo with the right off and with the lefts...

Cutting the jumper on Samsung TV to solve the flickering
              by Adenitz
              Hello to all,
I have just seen this YT video about solving flickering issue on SAMSUNG TV. Reading many comments it seems this works.
But I wonder what is done here and how this solved the issue. I'm not able to find the schematics so cannot explain to myself.
Few years ago I had a flickering problem on one monitor in some factory which I managed to solve by inserting UPS between monitor and power outlet. I also notice on this occasion the flickering was gone if I put insulation tape on the power plug like shown in the attached picture to remove connection with the PE conductor...
