Resurrecting cracked Panasonic ST30...panel still shorted?

A ballistic Wii Remote cracked my Panasonic TC-P50ST30 and it shorted out and fried the SD (lower y-buffer) board. I replaced the board but left one of the ribbon cables from the panel disconnected where I found a short on the old SD board in case the panel was still shorted. The TV powered up and works fine but as expected there's a black horizontal strip corresponding to the disconnected ribbon cable.

My question is this: How can I determine if the panel is still shorted or if it was a momentary short from the initial impact? Where do I measure continuity?

I can almost guarantee you that it will still be shorted. Testing is difficult, usually the lines short between each other or between themselves and the SS board.

Well--IF the panel is cracked--Then it wont work at all, I'm assuming you've replaced the panel to have some picture, therefore the short whether intermittent or permanent in the old panel--Doesnt Matter--as its been replaced!

Just replace the buffer thats faulty.

Interesting. Would it not be possible to measure the ribbon itself to look for the short ? Maybe check against a know good portion of the panel to find what you're looking for.

Prolly only show up with a high voltage applied....

Could rig up a current-limited 150V and try that....

Limit the current to a maximum of say 100uA and run an ammeter in series....

A modern plasma panel will often work partially when cracked like an LCD, but there will almost always be a dead shorted portion which will kill buffer boards.

Re: Resurrecting cracked Panasonic ST30...panel still shorted?

Not surprisingly I couldn't identify any shorts with continuity any way I tried. On a whim I set the meter to volts AC, powered up the TV, connected one probe to ground and the other I ran along the ribbon with shorted wires and the one next to it to use as a control. I got ~24 volts on the non-shorted wires and ~4 to 21 volts on the shorted wires. I put a piece of tape over the area that was shorted (see image), plugged in all the ribbon cables, and confirmed that I got half of the dead strip back. Since the dead rows are at the very bottom the TV is 95% usable in this state. Thanks everyone who chimed in!

I'm impressed you were able to make good from an otherwise bad panel. Let us know how it goes and how it lasts.

Is there an actual crack in the panel?
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Hi every one. I just want to share the successful repair of my shorted Panasonic TNPA4782AB SC board.

I don't usually do it but so many parts were shorted that I decided to buy the ShopJimmy repair kit instead of sourcing each components individually. Here is the list of components the kit contained, with a remark indicating if I needed that part or not :

                      Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

                      I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...

                      Hi to all,
the owner of this machine gave it to me after having opened it to take off the dust from the inside, telling me that after that it didn't start anymore.
I found that one of the DrMOS (AOZ5016QI) on the CPUCORE was shorted between VIN and VSWH, and that one of the two n-mos connected to the power jack was shorted aswell.
I unsoldered the two shorted components and verified that there were no other short circuits, then decided to power the mainboard, firstly with the lab power supply, then with its original HP 200w charger, but the behaviour is the same, the board starts...

Panasonic TC-P55ST50 8 blinks then no blinks
                      by Andre Gilbert
Hello! yes I know there is already lots of information about this issue. I have a Panasonic TC-P55ST50 that originally displayed an 8-blink error code. Following the troubleshooting flowchart, I ended up replacing the SS board. However, even after replacing it, the issue persists. The TV turns on and stays on without displaying an image, and continuity is confirmed on all connectors. What am I missing here🤔?
Ok Im a mechanical engineer ...but I thought I was able to follow a rather simple flowchart for electric troubleshooting 😂.

Dead Razer Blade 14 2022, shorted CPU?
                      by BalkanBoy
                      Hi,

                      today I got Razer Blade 14, Ryzen 9 6900HX and RTX 3070Ti.

Laptop was completely dead. I found shorted CPU VRM mosfet, shorted 19V mosfet and blown battery fuse.

I replaced it all, but still on CPU coil where mosfet was shorted I got very low resistance, near 0 ohms. On other CPU coils I got around 3 ohms.

Laptop now raises voltage on whole board, but still nothing comes on the screen. CPU gets 0.7V on all coils except the shorted one. CPU gets only slightly hot, below 40 C.

I removed coil and injected 0.7V, it draw around...
