Hello all!
Almost two weeks ago, I came into possession of an LG 50PG20 plasma TV that will not turn on at all. No red standby light or anything. The original owners tried getting it repaired once already and the repairman told them it was a problem with one of the fuses on the power supply. He tried fixing it by replacing the bad fuse but the original owners of the TV said it didn't last very long. However, I don't think the repairman did a very good job, as I'll get to in a moment.
I took the back off the TV and none of the caps on the power supply or other boards appeared to be bulging. However, in my research I've read that capacitors should be flush with the board but on this TV's power supply board, a few of the caps have a bit of space between their bottoms and the board. Nothing appears to be leaking out of those caps though, so I don't think they are damaged but I'm not 100% positive.
Upon further inspection of the power supply, I noticed that one of the thermistors (location TH101) is damaged and a good part of it is missing. I also noticed that one of the fuses (in location F801) is blown. From what I've read, it seems that usually when a thermistor or fuse goes out, it's because of some other problem with the board. Now, could that problem be that when the original repairman replaced this fuse, he didn't clip the leads and they are bent towards each other? I'm guessing that's bad and the reason the fuse is blown but could that also be the cause of the broken thermistor? Also, I'm assuming these two issues could be why I don't get even a standby light, correct?
At this point, I'm not quite sure how to proceed. I know the thermistor and fuse need replacing and I think the ones I've linked to are the correct parts needed to replace them (please let me know if I'm mistaken) but I'd rather not replace them just for them to go out again because I didn't fix the underlying problem. So any suggestions on how to proceed from here would be most welcome.
Please let me know if any additional images are required. I just have a cheap Canon point-and-shoot but I'll try my best to get good pictures.
Thanks in advance for all your help!
