i guess if its cheap i might as well give it a shot...
    the chip says
    AS15-F
    0707BG
    86921N45

do those 2nd and third lines matter?

also if i just wanted to get a new TCON board
which of these numbers has to match?

    T370XW02 V5 CB
    06A69-1A

If this SM IC has more than 10 legs on it; id say use the heat gun or IR solder machine...

Re: VIZIO VX37L HDTV10A has messed up color

im having trouble saving up the funds to buy a decent hot air station, but if i could get this tv fixed by just replacing the TCON board, then i could sell it and be a lot closer.... trouble is when i type in the numbers on the TCON board the cheapest one is like 40$
but when i just type in
                    VX37L HDTV10A
i can find one selling for only 15$
it says its out of the same TV, but the TCON board itself is obviously different.
are TCON boards in any way interchangeable?
whats going on here? cause id really like to just buy this 15$ board if it is compatible.

You can have more than one version of the same model TV, one model may use screen from one manufacturer, then 6 months later they may have found cheaper panel from another manufacturer and use the new one. The T-CON has to match the LCD panel model.

what you could try,is take a new exacto knifes(spelling right?) and right where the little legs go into the chip, carefully cut through them, one at the time, work slow and don't push too much as you risk lifting a trace of the board or cut a trace....Once you cut all the little legs, you can easily remove the chip and with the soldering iron you can then melt of the legs one by one etc...
Takes a bit of time but with patience can be done...

thats a cool tip and i may end up trying that. ok so i need to get the LCD panel model to find out if there are multiple TCON boards that could work for it?

I've had several of those damn gamma chips fail. Luckily, I live near coppell tv repair. $45 and a few hours and they put a new one in, and that's important - if you get a used tcon, who knows what life is left in that gamma chip? With the replacement, a brand new one is put in. I would highly recommend looking into their repair service (I believe you can buy via both their website and ebay).

u make good points, but 45$ is too rich for my blood. if i buy a tv for 20$ broken, and have to spend 50$ to fix it then that leaves me hardly 30$ profit for selling it. unless it's a really big TV then i might be able to get more. and then it WOULD be worth it. so yeah.. good points thanks!

I've also removed that chip using the x-acto knife method. Just be careful to make many light passes, so you don't punch through the leads and dig into the board where you may cut traces. Then just use the iron to wipe away the leftover pins from the pads. And do everything within your power to get it 100% straight the first time, as reworking with just an iron is a good way to lift a pad.
