    Hitachi P50H401

My TV went out. Will turn on, no picture, blue light just blinks. Buffer board has a burned IC. Have 2 blown caps on the power supply. Disconnected the other buffer board and tv powers on and displays half a screen. Was wondering if anyone has replaced just the burned IC? I can get one on ebay for around $20. A used buffer board is $80.

You should be able to repair the problem by replacing the ic. I had this model and had four bad ICs and had them all replaced which fixed it.

How did you know which ones were bad? How did you replace them? I don't have a hot air rework station.

There should be 2 little ceramic capacitors parallel to each other next to each IC if I remember correctly. Measure across one for resistance and see if it is shorted, if it is than the IC next to it will be bad. The ICs for this was relatively expensive so I ended up sending it in for repairs from someone on ebay.

I will have to check them. So if the tv turns on and displays half the screen with one buffer plugged in, does that mean the other boards are ok? I was wondering if I could use a heat gun and a solder iron and replace myself. Then I guess silicon around the chip.

I usually scratch off as much of the silicon off the chip as possible and then remove the chip with a heat gun and aluminium foil. It's a bit difficult though

I might try it. The hardest part I think would be soldering the new chip.

Soldering the chip should be pretty straight forward. But you have to be careful not to damage the traces when removing the old one since it is held with some silicon that will add extra force when trying to lift it.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

                    Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Help finding the correct model of a T-Con board on my Hitachi TV
                    by sotodefonk
Hi, I have a Hitachi tv model L47V651, there is no image, but sound and backlights turn on, so I believe the issue is the tcon board.

I opened the tv to access the board and took the shared pictures of the T-Con board.

I saw a video from shopjimmy on how to detect the model number on tcon boards, but this doesn't have a sticker like how that video showed all boards.

I searched the P/N number and got results with the same marking name and P/N my board has but they list other specific tv models like Vizio and Philips brand but not Hitachi.

                    Inspecting...
