I have a Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX that flickered off during a thunderstorm and then would start turning off and on(no clicking could be heard). We unplugged it for a while and turned it on and we would have a good picture with sound for five minutes and then it would start turning on and off again. After trying all of the recommendations from Samsung with no luck I popped the back of to take a look. No bulging capacitors to be seen. I'd like to give it a go to fix it since it would cost more to take it to a reputable repair store at this point than buy a new one. I'm not sure where to start, any suggestions?

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
A quick update I removed the power board and examined it for any burn marks and found now. I put it back. I tested the Vs when on and it read 209V and the Va read 58V. Since the turning off and on again takes a while after its been off a while we let it remain on until issues were observed again. In doing this I had my wife put the source to TV and the screen had a small band along the top of the screen and everything else was pink. Then the whole screen was then pink and about a minute later the screen went black. I took the reading again and the Vs was 209V but the Va was 0V. We could still hear the TV sounds on but would not respond to any controls so we unplugged it.
Any thoughts on these new developments or new things to test? -

Check the plasma screen extremely carefully for tiny cracks or marks around the edge. Many Samsung plasmas will just crack if you look at them wrong and they can cause this effect. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Well this is becoming more of a disaster by the minute! I can't see any cracks but I guess I need to take off the plastic guard to check the edges. I'm guessing this would be a new problem caused by me tinkering with the components?Comment

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
Okay I checked all the edges and saw no damage. I turned it back on to grab a picture and it looks like the pink stuff is only when it is on the TV source but is fine on the smart Hub and launching the YouTube app. Here are the relevant pictures.Comment

Wait, I missed that you had a picture? My fault. Cracked panel can't cause that.
Can you post a picture of the control board? It's the board that connects to the AV input board and the sustain boards, it's usually in the center of the panel. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
That's the AV input board ("main board"), but if you follow that wide ribbon cable coming off it, it will go into the control board. I need a photo of that control board. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
OK, see those four big copper plated holes, top right, with CN2008 printed next to them? With the TV unplugged, place a wire jumper between the holes marked 3 and 4. You want to collect these together.
Then, disconnect the wide ribbon cable on the right hand side of the board, the one which goes to the main board.
Power on the TV. You should get cycling test patterns on the screen. Is any distortion visible on these patterns? Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
You can, but you don't have to if you can find something that will stay in place without soldering it in.
You need to remove it after the test to restore normal functionality. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
Main AV board is the cause of the fault then.
If the TV stays on, attempt a firmware update. (Do NOT attempt one if you suspect it will shutdown, you will "brick" the main board and control board, making an expensive repair necessary.)Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
Actually it has the absolute newest firmware, I got it to fully update while initially working with samsung. The TV has stayed on for six minutes.
EDIT: at the ten minute mark it turned off and turned back on and started repeating this every 30sec or so just like before.Last edited by Sryii; 06-01-2014, 12:53 PM.Comment

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
My guess would be lead-free soldering failure under main CPU. Lead-free solder is brittle and can crack under high thermal load.
Same failure cause as Xbox 360 red ring of death and PS3 yellow light of death. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Reflow could work as a temporary solution, but it's very rarely permanent. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by CDNBrewerHello, I have a Samsung Plasma TV - Model # PN43D450A2D
This was my parents TV and the initial symptoms were that the display was hard to turn on with the display making various clicking noises until one day it would not turn on anymore.
I took a look and found a couple 1000uF capacitors (i believe on the low voltage size) that had leaked out their electrolyte and did not test well on a tester. I replaced them but still no dice.
When the TV is plugged in, there is no clicking, LED status lights (on PCB boards or the front display) and the power on button... -

Picked up another TV. Samsung UN43NU6950FXZA. No power and no standBy led on. Removed back cover and:
Main fuse = OK
Back light LED = OK. Power them with aux power source
LED output = OK 156V
I do get 12 V DC out of the power supply going to the digital section but no 5V or 3.3V. PS_on voltage is only 1.8V. I have looked everywhere on the PCB , I could not find i reference for 5V output.
Also removed connections to panel, speakers and remote but no luck. One strange thing is that even with the LED power supply working, backlight LED do not turn on... -
by karthurI picked this up at a yard sale and the owner knew nothing about it. Just knew that it didn't work. I get it home and sure enough it doesn't come on. Here is what I do see/hear.
When its first plugged in, I can hear a click. It sounds like its from the power board. There is a red light on the front by the control panel that blinks 6 times. When I touch one any of the buttons on the front panel the red light will flash. I pulled off the back cover and looked at all the board. Nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing looks burned or damaged. On the power board (BN44-00445A), there... -
by Journey11Hi All,
First time posting here ... my name is Kevin but my friends call me Journey.
I have a Samsung 75" LCD model UN75RU8000FXZA that I don't remember the original fault other than it wouldn't power up anymore.
After it sat for many month's I decide to look at it again. The motherboard seemed to have power regulation issues. After much fussing I decided to just get a new MB.
It came a few days ago and I installed it now just cycles the power relay on and off ... when on the backlights light up and then dim and then relay kicks off and the whole things starts again.... - Loading...
