Thank you @mon2! So helpful! I was curious if that was the case.

Understand super I/O chip numbering
TLDR: which lines on the naming of super Io chips are critical for finding a replacement?
I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro that isn't turning on. The plug was damaged and it looks like that led to something on the board dying. When plugged in the charging light is solid amber but it will never turn on. After my VERY newbish attempts to user a multimeter I was able to determine that the power was at least starting out the right way and the MOSFETs were working, there was a drop in charge when the power button is pressed on that line and ultimately the super io chip got insanely hot. Looks...

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX screen dims periodically
The test pattern only seems to stay on for ten minutes and then shuts the test pattern off. Oh well. I did try hiking everything back up and now its working fine. I'm not sure if this has to do with how long the TV has been on so I'm going to try running it for a few hours. I'll report back with any results. Thanks Tom for your help so far!

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX screen dims periodically
Okay, well I ran the logic board test panel and I don't see the flashing at all though I'm not sure if it is because it hasn't been on long enough. Time might not even be a factor for this issue.
What would be a good next step?

Vs and Va were exactly as listed on the back of the TV. I will try and run the test pattern sequence. I believe its the one where you have to jump to copper circles on the logic board right?Last edited by Sryii; 12-14-2018, 07:39 PM.

Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX screen dims periodically
I have a Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX which has been flashing whole watching TV. But instead of getting brighter part of the image dims rapidly, from the top down. It seems to happen at random but also often if we change to a new source or if the screen changes suddenly.
I have the back opened up, I currently see no obviously bad capacitors but they're was one area on one board that was significantly dark. I've attached an image, it is at the end of the metal bar that says 51EF. They are two thermistors. Not sure if I can check them in circuit or if they have anything to do with...

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
Actually it has the absolute newest firmware, I got it to fully update while initially working with samsung. The TV has stayed on for six minutes.
EDIT: at the ten minute mark it turned off and turned back on and started repeating this every 30sec or so just like before.Last edited by Sryii; 06-01-2014, 12:53 PM.

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
Okay I checked all the edges and saw no damage. I turned it back on to grab a picture and it looks like the pink stuff is only when it is on the TV source but is fine on the smart Hub and launching the YouTube app. Here are the relevant pictures....

Re: Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
A quick update I removed the power board and examined it for any burn marks and found now. I put it back. I tested the Vs when on and it read 209V and the Va read 58V. Since the turning off and on again takes a while after its been off a while we let it remain on until issues were observed again. In doing this I had my wife put the source to TV and the screen had a small band along the top of the screen and everything else was pink. Then the whole screen was then pink and about a minute later the screen went black. I took the reading...

Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX power cylcling
I have a Samsung plasma TV PN51E550D1FX that flickered off during a thunderstorm and then would start turning off and on(no clicking could be heard). We unplugged it for a while and turned it on and we would have a good picture with sound for five minutes and then it would start turning on and off again. After trying all of the recommendations from Samsung with no luck I popped the back of to take a look. No bulging capacitors to be seen. I'd like to give it a go to fix it since it would cost more to take it to a reputable repair store at this point than buy a new one. I'm not sure where to start,...
