Hitachi 32LD8D20U - Panel fails when too bright.

Hi there, first time poster here. I thought I would try my hand at TV repair, so i bought a broken hitachi unit. It has a vestel 17PW20v2 in it, and this is a horrible thing isn't it!

When I first got it, the standby light just flashed at me. After replacing a few caps, I managed to get the thing switching on, but it only switched on half the time, and I had this issue where the screen would freeze and very quickly fade away when asked to be too bright. About a half second after the failure, it begins to work normally. I replaced the board with one from ebay, and the unit now switches on consistently, but this issue still remains.

The symptom is that on these heavy white loads, a 3.3V rail on the PSU collapses. The backlight stays on, but all the pixels on the screen stop changing, and quickly begin to fade to black, from the outer edges of the screen inward. About a half second afterwards, the screen returns to normal. I have tried a number of different video and image tests, and it seems as simple as more pixels on = more chance of failure.
Sometimes, a number of short sharp impulses, maybe 4 a second, can be heard coming from the speakers as it recovers from a rail collapse.

Do you think this is a mainboard fault, or could I have bought an equally faulty PSU? Anyone got any ideas? I haven't been able to find anyone else with similar issues, but perhaps I am searching the wrong keywords. Also, I am from the UK so this will be a PAL model.

I am relatively competent with a soldering iron, but my theory is quite basic - I'm a loudspeaker guy really, just testing the waters here...

    Thanks for reading

      Hi there,

Long time without posting due to illness. I finally got around to taking this TV apart again to take some photos. I replaced the input caps on the power supply, before noticing that one of the leads going to the screen was not properly seated. I reseated the cable and now everything seems to be working fine! Thank you for the impetus!

        Hi guys,

I got this tv with half bottom of the screen flickering, horizontal stripe lines.
I found when disconnected right side of the screen, the problem is gone.
I isolated the CK signals (by guessing ) and loose the color.

        Hitachi 32HAE2351 Vestel 17MB171 - Rotate Image
        Mainboard: VESTEL 17MB171 Chassis: VES315WNGB - 2D - N52
The TV was stuck on the logo and I couldn't access the update menu.
I couldn't find the firmware for the Hitachi 32HAE2351 and updated it with the Toshiba 32WA2063DG - Vestel 17MB171 firmware.
The image result was good, but the image is inverted.
The image rotation/mirror function doesn't exist in the Menu Server. I can't correct the image.
Do you have the firmware for the Hitachi 32HAE2351 - Vestel 17MB171 motherboard or a solution to rotate the image in...

TD Systems K50DLG12US half black and half white screen
        by Raulnn
good night! I have this screen that looks half black and half white. the tcon gives a low vgh value (5-6v). the rest seem fine. I first removed the flex from one half of the panel and then the other. Removing the left, vgh increases it to 25-26v. I think the problem is in that area, but there are not many elements on the integrated controller board. there are no shorted capacitors. could they be a cof? Some help?

By the way, now the entire screen is black. Maybe some flex was not connected correctly... I have exchanged the flex and there are no variations, I don't think they are the...

Sharp Aquos LC-70C6400U Half Screen Dark
        by scubacamper
I found another post on this site the other day which has been very helpful in troubleshooting this issue I am having with my tv. The left half of the screen is dark, and the other half is VERY slow to generate it's image - and it only generates part of its image at that.
Based on this yt video, I have narrowed it down to an issue (short?) on the left side of the display, somewhere in the system of ribbon cables.
when I remove the bezel and the rear cover, I can get the image to display correctly by manipulating the ribbon cables on the left side which connects the left lower display...
