Panasonic TC-42PX24 Why do I?

I keep punishing myself and buying Panasonic's. Why I have no idea. I did what TW2005 said to do in another post (remove P2, P11, P35, and white ribbons A31,A32,A21) but I only get 1 blink, a relay click and off. No power up at all. But after I disconnected everything, I could get the 10 blinks. So now I have everything connected but P7 and I get the 10 blinks but no power at P2 or P11. Also there is a bulb on the power supply listed as SQ101 and I have yet to see it light up. No idea if it should though. Any tricks I can do to get power to P2 and P11? I metered a few spots on the P board and I am getting various voltages. I chacked the diodes, gates, caps, and transistors and haven't seen a short. There is a couple that are but they look like they should be for some reason. I have the exact same tv working that I'm tempted to take apart and install the P board to see.

I know what you mean about Pan. sets....

I have two PX80's --with faulty mainboards--Loverly sets great conditio,n stands and remotes--That I'm stuck with!

Been having a go at them on and off for a while--On one set--(not either of the PX80's, They are summit else!)
One thing I noticed, unplug the dual-row multiway connector near the tuner--set will start up, initialise the panel, no video or sound though....
On That set, there was a loose plug on that board that supplies the fans and some of the smaller voltage-regulation--forget its designation.

You may have 2 faults. Not sure what you mean by disconnecting everything. Not much left with the SC,SS and C boards disconnected.

I would swap the A board and try again p2,p11,p35 and whit ribbons removed. Should definitely get TV to stay on and Vsus will be up. I've got the same generation TV.

Also get a meter and check SS11 for dead short and also check SN2 likewise. SS board short is common fail.

I meant I had all the ribbon cables disconnected. I'm actually starting to think it's the P board. With all my cables disconnected except for P7, I get some voltage at various points on the P board but never any voltage at P2 or P11. Is there a way to test the P board without it connected to anything besides AC? Like jumpering some pins to make the P board think it's on. I have done it on a Samsung.

EDIT: Just metered SN2 and SS11. No shorts. I'm back to thinking I have a bad P board. I have the same tv I can pull the A and P board from but it's at the cottage. I'll have to drive out there, pull the boards and bring them home.

Brought home the P board and A board from the lake. The P board was faulty in the tv. Fired it up right away. But The screen is lighter on the outside. Like a burn in from watching 4:3 shows. Any way to get that to go away? I attached pics.

Nice, to be honest I put the P board at a low failure chance so I was expecting A, but you should be able to fault find it and repair cheap I expect since you have one to model off.

So which voltage is dead or yet to determine?

Thanks for the quick reply. I have no voltage coming out of P2 or P11. I metered various parts of the board. All the caps, diodes, gates, and transistors. I have another dead P board with the same problem. I'm sure I can make one board out of two. My concern is the burn in on the outside of the screen (I posted pics above). Will that go away if I keep running the "scrolling bar"?

Well I found the problem. Believe it or not, it was a main cap on the P board. I felt a small bulge in it and it even was a Nichicon. I metered it after I pulled it out and it was reading 150nf. Usually don't bother reading those caps but I sure am from now on. I've attached pics.

Well I found the problem. Believe it or not, it was a main cap on the P board. I felt a small bulge in it and it even was a Nichicon. I metered it after I pulled it out and it was reading 150nf. Usually don't bother reading those caps but I sure am from now on. I've attached pics.

Good work. Maybe bad batch? usually those big buggers look to have a bulge but are ok.

This will help a few down the track. Panas PSUs are usually pretty good.

Did you go into serv menu and run the SRV TOOL to activate and check the hours run on the set?

Ok I did it. This plasma has seen alot of on time. Time 18919:414 Count 573.
I'm trying to get rid of the 4:3 burn in running the "scrolling bar". I have pixel protector I am going to run after that. Also there is a setting greyed out called 4:3 side bars. It's set to bright and I can't change it for some reason. Like to change that if possible.

Try this. Do not have exact guide.

While pressing [VOLUME ( - )] button of the main unit, press [INFO] button of the remote control three times within 2 seconds.

press 1 to cycle through to SRV-TOOL
press OK
use arrows to highlight bottom right block directly across from the SOS history
press mute for 3secs or more and should show hours and power cycles.

Also if you go into aging, you can cycle through the test patterns and get a full white to see if it helps. P42C2 manual should be good enough for exact instructions.

Not sure about the bars, maybe need a user guide, check if it's something preset in Hotel mode?

Sorry I edited my post after you posted I guess. It was a retired lady that had it. I did a full factory reset and went through motions of setting it up.

LOL. Yes that's a few miles on the clock but then TOM has had some biggies and I think someone else had something rediculous as it was a display screen so on 24/7.

I really don't know about the side bars but if it has been run like that forever, may explain the deterioration?

If the TV is approx 3.5 years old, equates to 14hrs / day, so maybe it's from a retirement home or something?? Can't imagine someone managing 14hrs a day of TV 7 days a week.

I had a Samsung plasma with two bad main caps that smelt burning, replaced and fixed but then I had the same 4:3 burn-in bars...

And I'm one of those people who actually leaves on the tv for half a day even if not watching. Lol

Actually, that's a very good point. Totally forgot about the main cap issue.

Explains a lot. Life expectancy is probably no where near 19000hrs!

I downloaded pixel protector to see if it can fix it but I need a pal dvd player to use it. Trying to convert it to NTSC. I'll post back if it can repair the 4:3 side bars.

Good luck. Did you find the AGING, and the white pattern?

Might take another 19000hrs to equalize Sorry that's my sick sense of humour.

At least you got it going with a half decent picture, that's better than I did with my version.
