TEAC 2633A(blows fuse)

The tv came with a blown fuse and dpts switch removed both replaced.

Now I can get a standby light when I turn the power on(not mains) out of standby, then the main fuse will blow.

Looked over this board for shorts.

Not sure were to go next as the capacitors look good.

You can do that. Does the board have a relay on it? Pictures of the board would be nice.

I have not pictures of the board at this current time will take some tomorrow.

I have tested the bridge rectifier is the middle pins meant to read zero both ways?

Yes board seems to have a relay if RE1 means anything.


According to service manual..
2. When the RE1 is on, the power (90-264VAC) will be transformed into sine wave
by DB2. The C27 will be charged by D3 at first, not by T3, to avoid the C27 charge
saturation, which may cause hardware damages such as MOS JM1 failure.

The Schematic shows a relay, so something is shorted after it. could be DB2 (bridge Rectifier) or JM1 FET (my money's on that), or anything else in that circuit.
The standby circuit is seperate from the main power supply.

its prick getting this bridge rectifier out its attached to a heat sink and there is a transformer right in front of it tried for 4 hours trying to remove the lot on the heat sink.

I think its my iron tip thought its a pointy tip and plus a bit oxidized, waiting on my new handle.

So anyway of testing JM1 in circuit.

Ok I have tested the mosfet

PIN
1. to pin 2. .OL
1. to pin 3 .OL
2. to pin 3 is 26.3 ohms

So this is the suspect failure?

I did a test on the mosfet it tested good.

switches on and off like its meant too..
so this would mean that its not a failed part and we can move on?

Hey from my understanding of testing bridge rectifiers here are my results.

Starting with positive on DC-
pin2~ 0.506v
pin3~ 0.000v(this means its shorted or bad don't it?)
reversed negative on DC-
pin2~ .OL
pin3~ .0.000v

Moving on with positive on DC+
pin2~ .OL
pin3~ .OL
reversed negative on DC+
pin2~ 0.512v
pin3~ 0.511v

to my understandings this rectifier is bad am I correct? or have I tested wrong.

Wouldn't it be easier to quickly remove transformer,hence creating way more space to remove rectifier?

removed that to get to it should of thought of it sooner.

Also them results are from the rectifier out of circuit.

Got a reading on the sine wave pins

- ~ ~ +
1 2 3 4

Positive on pin 2
negative on pin 3

Not a reading reversed.
so this confirms it broken rectifier.

Yes,it's broken,one of 2 diodes that sits between pin 2&3 is shorted,therefore you measure it as if it was just one diode..
Where to get? Mouser,ebay etc would have them,but I don't know it is in australia for getting stuff out of states etc... Local electronic store near you???

I ordered some but ended up finding one, that was the same rating in a computer psu.

the tv is now working. have had it on for about 50 minutes so far with no fuse blowing.

Thank you all that have helped. I think I learned how to test a bridge rectifier now.

I can not wait for a new iron handle for my soldering station. as the iron i am using is a plug in the wall one with no temperature control sucks and damaged a few traces I was lucky to be able to fix these.
