    LN46a550 Picture Debug

    Hey Everyone,

Hoping for some advice on leads in troubleshooting an LN46a550 with picture issues.

I've reseated the TCON cables, cleaned the contacts, I also checked the tab bonds and added thermal pads to the three leftmost vertical bonds. I couldn't really get the behavior to improve at all by doing strain relief or thermal relief of the tab bonds, particularly the leftmost one.

The picture issue is limited to the leftmost side of the screen most of the time, but it is possible to get picture dependent horizontal lines as well. This is most noticable when pulling the menus up - it is possible to get horizontal lines across maybe the leftmost 1/3 of the panel.

No obvious damaged parts on PS or main board. Checked voltage through fuses and looks good.

Any other ideas? Looks like I can get a TCON board for about $25, think it is any chance to have that be the issue? It worries me that it may just be the panel driver because of the localization.

    Any help is appreciated!

I had a smaller Samsung lcd with the same problem, turned out some water had got onto the board bonded to the panel itself. If you could figure out which component went bad on the board maybe, but I would say panel is bad as well.

I'll take a look at the circuitry on the circuit board connecting to the tab bond and see if anything seems off. I think it's unlikely that the TV is water damaged. I take it this is almost certain not to be a TCON issue?

Edit: Thanks for the advice so far, by the way.
