    lg 42pj550 zd Clicking Noise

Anyone knows the parts needed to repair this fault, its a common fault on the LG's. Seen a few vids on Utube, detailing the fix.

Volatage Regulator, 2 ceramic resistors, diode, fuse maybe.

Don't want to be buying the kit, sure I can save a penny not buying this.

Yes the Tv is not here, fault has been describe to me and heard over the phone.

Tv can work for random amount of time then click, click, shut down, Or never turn on sometimes.

I've removed a diode location d304 it says SR104 a11. tested with DMM it reads 0.234 is this correct not between (0.5-0.8)

It will be hard to troubleshoot that over the internet and then over the phone.

The diode you found is a schottky diode, which in general have a lower voltage drop than "normal" diodes. If in doubt, a good source for datasheets is Alldatasheet.com.

What you measured looks more or less ok to me, see figure 2 in this datasheet:
      http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datashe...DES/SR104.html

If it randomly turns on, and off first thing I would check are bad contacts, bad soldering (check with magnifying glass), then electrolytic capacitors, only then semiconductors.

I've now got the tv in my position, will be posting pix later, but im too piss Liverpool beat Man U so forgive.

That diode was bleeping when in circuit so removed it that's the reading im getting.
was going test the voltage regulator next.

Did a few more checks, removed this resistor, pink body think it should be 368 or 36.8 ohms? used a resistor color code but couldn't get the 4th & 5th band correct.

I explain 4th should be silver but only seen grey, and couldn't select the 5th band as black.

When I test resistor on DMM it reads something like 2.3 ohms.

From the pictures the diode & resistor has been removed.
Top of my head locations D304 & R305 near heat shield.

Changed my DMM that pink resistor reads 000.4? is that correct

Re: lg 42pj550 zd Clicking Noise

Resistor seems to be 0.36R, so it's ok.

If you know what's in the kit, buy the parts and try it out. Otherwise some troubleshooting is necessary.
Did you check for bad solder joints?

Re: lg 42pj550 zd Clicking Noise

Yea ive worked out whots in the kit, got the parts, The 2 ceramic resistors they measured ok 22.1 ohms, but I still changed them.

The diode measured 0.234 which I told was ok, measured against new about the same ish. (Just had a look on datasheet is between 0.2-0.4) cheers paulstef.

The problem is the tv could work for a few hours then shut down, then you get the clicking sound on trying to restart.
Some time you could leave the tv for a while it may or may not start again.

I've have a good look around only for bad caps & tested all diodes, have not looked for dry joints as suggested.

That voltage regulator, next to the diode & resistor I removed, cant remember the part number (at the top of my head 3br1565jf). Not sure if the readings im getting are correct, but think its ok, when tested against new part.

Did try looking at the datasheet, but cant make head or tails whot I should be reading on the datasheet.

Re: lg 42pj550 zd Clicking Noise

So it's a heat related problem. Quite easy to find out.

It's probably either caps or bad solder joints, possibly a semiconductor too.

Get yourself a can of cooling spray and a heatgun (or hairdryer). Disconnect the unit from mains. Then heat up the whole power supply. MAKE SURE NOT TO OVERHEAT THE UNIT. You should still be able to touch components!!.

Try to start up the unit. It probably won't. Use cooling spray in a small area of the PCB, start with smaller caps. Always only a small area! Wait a few seconds, see if it starts again.
You can find the exact component that's faulty by this method.

You still didn't say if you looked for bad solder joints. If you don't know what to look for google "bad solder joint" and switch to "images".

when you say cooling spray, do mean something like this :> http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sa...g+spray&_frs=1

Probably similar yes. I meant this one: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/servisol-f...ay-200ml-re77j

Only apply it on a small area and also only short bursts. And don't spray it on your skin. It hurts.

Cheers maplins not to far from me, do I need to spray while the tv set is on, or do I spray when off, turn on check.

Only spray the semiconductors, voltage reg's, diodes, Zdiodes, resistors etc.

You can leave it on, it's easier this way. Start with electrolytic capacitors. The smaller ones. As explained you need to bring the set in the condition where it doesn't work. Spray one cap, wait a few seconds. See if it turns on. If it doesn't next one... and so on.

Check for bad solder joints (visual check)

Cheers last time it was on it stay on for 4-5 hours, had to turn it off to go bed.
Aint turned it on from ive removed those few named bits. 5w22 resistors, diode, pink resistor.
Been on a go slow today coz of all the footy to watch.

Will check for dry joints right now, will pick up the cooling spray in the morrows.

Are these readings correct for these diodes

                              SR104 A11

                                Just a update
Couldn't get the set to repeat the fault, had it on for endless hours, turning it off & on, all different times didn't miss a beat for 6 weeks.

Give it back to owner, next day they said it wasn't working?

I let you guyz know when I get it back

Hi Jahson Were you able to fix the problem? I have the same problem as you do with an LG plasma and can't figure out the value of that resistor. Has anyone explained its value to you? If it has, I would like to know. Thanks.

Test the parts highlighted and if If heating/cooling ic701 makes no difference then there are a set of 11 smd resistors on the back in parallel with ic701 they can go bad

I tested my white ones but the little black one gives me -55 on svc and 3 on acv. Can you please tell me what I should do. Thank you.
