Q: is there a standard method to check a plasma screen?

Is there any way to check if a plasma screen has gone bad?
I have tried to repair a LG plasma which has no picture but I dont know how to check if the screen itself is still ok.

    Well--Its difficult....

Apart from obvious cracks, a set in otherwise good (working) condition with a PDP down to air,--will Buzz quite loudly if the PDP (Screen) is bad.

Other faults include mal-discharge (Very common on LG)--red/green spots, sections of picture missing, can be a number of issues--But Generally--a Blank/lifeless screen--Isnt one of them!

LG with no pic--what model? Common for IPM's to fail on 42/50PC1/3DA/ similar with the X3 chassis....

Its a PS50C55. THE y-buffer board was showing earthed down, and the controller board was flashing every 5 seconds so I changed y-sus and buffer, but after 3 seconds with power on, it looked like the Y-buffer had another flash across it and the picture went off again. this is the 3rd LG i have had with no picture fault.

There is no standard method as far as I'm aware. Never heard of PS50C55 LG. That sounds like part Samsung code. Maybe LG 50PC56?
