When I turn tv on, the backlights come on but there is no sound or picture. I have read that these tv's have problems with the panels going bad but the "no sound" has me questioning if the main board is bad. Is there a way to troubleshoot the main board to determine if that is the problem?

yours info not complete... did the set response to RC ? if yes put it in STBY and call service menu then from there do hard reset,,, TU known with shit firmware -
The tv will go on to blue screen and off with remote and the red light blinks when I hit other buttons, but it doesnt seem to go into standbye with remote. I tried the reset --Info:menu:mute:power ---but it did nothing. Its actually not blue screen, just backlight on.Comment

I have one just like this, I found a shorted cap on the buffer board (which made 6 others appear shorted) and after I replaced it, still no picture. I put it to the side and haven't looked at it since for some reason. Was about to crack this back open soon also..
I also didn't have sound either.
Take a look on buffer boards for some shorted caps.Comment
