    Panasonic Plasma No Picture

Good Day, I have a 42 inch Panasonic TC P42S30. Last night we lost the entire picture and sound. The red power light stays on solid and does not blink. I have removed the back cover and there is no evidence of burnt components. There is definitely a signal and I cannot access the menu or setup screen so I am sure the picture is dead. I'm not an expert in these repairs but have a good electrical working knowledge and most of the necessary tools.

    Any help would be appreciated.

With the 2011 and later models if the PSU is shorted at startup the LED is solid and no blinks.

SC boards short , regular occurence, seen plenty of posts.

Shutdown but No Blink code - Power LED stays on (Check for Shorted Vsus* / Vda** / P15V).

You could use this guide for fault finding, I'd disconnect the SC and see if the TV starts and then Blinks, check for shorted Vsus at SC2 or shorted IGBTs, 30F131 sems to be a common one.

    2011 Guide

    Edit:
Another looking like SN He posted a repair kit link so you may be able to self repair. I have read a couple who have replaced just the shorted 30F131 to get them going again.

Thanks very much. This plus the other posts are really helpful. I'm going to spend some time on it today. Will let you know how it goes.

So I did the tests and yes, the SC board is dead shorted to ground. These boards don't look to be available anywhere, probably because they fail so often. I have seen the repair kits around but think that I will go with the 30f131 first. Seen other places where it has been identified as the culprit.

By the way, with the SC disconnected, the red light blinks 7 times. I think that pretty much confirms at least that it's the SC board.

        Thanks again

The exact same thing happened to me on the same exact model TV. It is the SN board. I had 4 shorted mosfets on the SN board.

Your right on the availability of these boards. Every parts website has the board listed, but everyone is out of stock. This is a very common problem on this model TV. Seeing as this is a 2011 model, it is happening to most at the 2-3 year mark.

I was told the cause of the problem of the components shorting was the screws that hold the SN board become loose over time and the board loses the ground resulting in shorted component(s).

After fixing and installing the SN board, it is highly recommended to replace the original screws with a new screw kit with lock washers. This will prevent the screws losening and the board losing the ground again.

Wow, that is great information. The repair kit I found includes 5 mosfets (IGBTs) two diodes an IC and one more transistor of some kind. Wish I knew which comopnents were bad so I could avoid all that soldering.

            Thanks again!!!!
