Re: Samsung PS50A557S3F - vertical lines on right hand side

    Great! I am VERY surprised!!

Image retention (not same as burn in as it's temporary): 1st thing, check all panel voltages match sticker. Note Vsc is -negative-.

Then bring up a pattern which shows retention (credits scrolling, star wars intro, etc all work) and start adjusting the Yrr control one way or another. If you go too far or wrong way you will get sparklies (flickering unstable pixels) so stop before that point. Try adjusting Yfr a little, but in general I find that helps more with excessive sparklies (before Yrr adjust) than anything else. Yrr erases pixel wall charge which causes IR.

If you can't fix image retention that way increase Ve (max +20V) and drop Vs slightly (max -5V.) If Vs is too low you will get a pink tint to the image in parts so watch out for this.

Yfr/Yrr are timing adjustments for panel ramp up.

It's not an exact science and mainly involves carefully observing the panel.

The red looks like Yfr is too high, so adjust that until you start getting dark pixels on full screen pattern (white); adjust slightly up from there.

Re: Samsung PS50A557S3F - vertical lines on right hand side

I adjust mostly while powered on, so be very careful not to slip. The Yrr/Yfr are timing potentiometer adjustments on the Y-main board. -Vsc/+Vsch are voltage adjustments on Y-main; Ve is a voltage on X-main.

Never touch the Va adjustment. Verify it is within tolerance and no more.

Close in focus pic of Y-main? Some Samsung plasmas omit some of them meaning you have to improvise with the others.

close up of the 2 i can find on the y-main ( left board attached to buffers )

1 had flash - are they ok >?

now all i can find is on the PS -VA 56 VS 207

Any way you can take the board out into some light -- hard to see with flash... obviously not tonight but tomorrow.

Hi tom after reading lost of your other posts I have now got rid of the reddish glow and IR but my bar has returned.

It's very faint blue and not really noticeable

Very odd but occasionally one appears on the left side of the screen which is making me thinks it might be the control board that is causing this

There must be some dirt/dust causing the lose connection

1 last strip and clean if still there it's getting sold as is, I'm sure someone will want a cheap 50 as I said you can hardly notice it but I can't sell as fully working

The plan was to replace my 8 year old 42 Panasonic in the bedroom but that's is working and very reliable I just don't trust this samsung.

I wouldn't replace any Panasonic - LCD or plasma - with a Samsung regardless, unless it was a premium model (7000,8000 series, good build quality.)

Not sure what is causing the blue bar, perhaps focus on the connectors from the C-board to the panel, maybe they have the equivalent of a tab bonds fault.

Re: Samsung PS50A557S3F - vertical lines on right hand side

I agree it was a silly idea, size isnt always best - that what i always tell the missues so dont know why i suggested it lol

when I tap the cable I get no change at all

but I tapped the brown shield that covers the c-buffer and it got worse lol

so i think its down to the ribbon that attaches to the screen - any one had this ?

seeing as i did have it working and I think the moving of the screen flexed the ribbon I might try packing it out away from the frame etc

I really don't want to give up as with it like this, it might as well not be powering on again in re sale terms I would have thought - what would you say it was worth with the fault in your exp ?

                                heres latest pic

oh and another very strange fault i forgot to mention

It wont turn on with the remote, i have to use the button on the side

I can use the remote fully when its on including being able to turn it off

                                  But not on !

wierd but very low on the bothered list right now lol

Minor fault like that would knock off at least half value... so around £120 to £130 sale price...
Make sure to install that heatsink which goes on the C board or you WILL have a bad panel sooner or later, perhaps that is causing your fault, those address/data driver ICs need to stay cool.

i always put it back - but the fault is there from cold

i even watched tv for an hour last night to see if when warmed up it changed but it didnt

i think i will have to chuck the towel in one this one - at £130 still made so not a great shame i just don't like being beaten lol
