Samsung PS50A557S3F - vertical lines on right hand side

    Samsung PS50A557S3F

Hi all i have a 50 inch plasma with vertical lines on one side ( right when facing screen )

I have added some pics below, can anyone suggest on where i start my trouble shooting ?

The pics were taken while the panel test was running

I'm going to say about 90% that the plasma panel is dead. This is an extremely common issue with A-series Samsung plasmas. Not economical to repair I'm afraid.

The only saving grace is that there aren't always static lines. They do vary. It's possible, though unlikely, that it is just a control board fault or loose connector. Can you take a video of the fault?

What's it look like with analog snow or moving input... do the lines ever move? Did you ever plug in or unplug the Y-main or X-main connector while the set had power (may have caused a small spark?)

Re: Samsung PS50A557S3F - vertical lines on right hand side

Hmm, yeah, looks like a bad panel to me, sorry! I give control board a very small chance of causing this because the lines do somewhat change but not as I would expect.

have you got any ideas what causes this as the person i got it off said it was on the wall and then stopped working and was just clicking - i replaced 2 caps on y main and also replaced ps

it now powers but panel is damaged ? can this happen with shorting ?

People lie. I have had this before. It is a shame, the first one you get with more faults than advertised. You lose trust.

It is a shame and don't want to give up tbh

Can i ask everyone's opinion would you carry on and look at getting a control board or call it a day

There must be some of you who have given a repair a 0% chance but then found it to work?

Depends how much a board costs, sounds like you have invested a fair bit in this, so I would probably bail out by now. Thankfully, it doesn't happen often.

or is there a way i can confirm its the panel with out trying a control board ?

If there was a way aware to myself, I would have mentioned in, maybe if you have a scope you could check the data lines to each address buffer. The only thing telling me it is control board is the lines change now and then, but they don't change enough (if that makes any sense...)

I stick to PZ80 Panasonics they do not have this problem AFAIK, avoid A-Series Samsung like plague due to this fault and similar faults.

this is the video you can see the static behind the vertical bar

                                      https://www.dropbox.com/s/cmspd569xmmist0/IMG_0663.MOV

and i have attached the pic

as you can see its much better

where do you think i concentrate my efforts as i cleaned a lot of connectors then i want to try and narrow it down

That line looks like a loose connector now, a lot more like what I would expected. That is very strange but lucky. Just make sure it's all seated properly and it should work.
