    Insigna NS-L24Q120-10A(verticle lines, craigslist scammed)

    Hello everyone!

I was scammed on Craigslist. I my greed of a great deal it was too good to be true. So needless to say when I got this 42" amazing deal home and plugged in, vertical lines and no picture....well when I press the menu button or volume button you can see it pops up on the screen, but it just stays in the vertical line view.

So since I feel I can fix most thing I went to take this thing apart, only to come and find it has already been taken apart! It was missing screws for the case and when I got the back off, the T-con board was taped on chase, not a single screw in it. Everything was plugged in and tight. I looked around for bulged or leaking caps and found nothing. I don't know if the previous jerk replaced the T-con board or just opened it and took it out and gave up. Below are links to pics front and back:

http://tinypic.com/m/hx0orc/2 - The yellow part on the screen in when I turn up the volume. This is also with the tv on about 2 min.

http://tinypic.com/m/hx0orb/2 - 30 sec after turning on the set no, buttons pressed.

    http://tinypic.com/m/hx0ork/2 - Power board(supply)

    http://tinypic.com/m/hx0ord/2 - Main board

http://tinypic.com/m/hx0orl/2 - T-Con Board (are the missing screws a grounding point?)

I've done some reading and watched as many YouTube videos as I have found, but I want to make sure before I start buying things on top of the money I paid for this broken TV already.

Any help is appreciated and I'll answer all questions as fast as I can.

Someone obviously tried to change the T-Con board and it did not fix it. (unless they had a bad spare to try) Seeing the vertical stripes I would say its the pannel or tab bond IC problem. Even with these normally there is a picture. Have you tried connecting to HDMI ports? Have audio? Maybe you can salvage some boards so the loss will not be soo bad.

I have not tried an audio source since I took it apart pretty quickly. I'll out the front panel back on and find and auto source to run on it. I'm not sure the guy ever changed it, he could have just took some stuff apart trying to see what was what. Do you think the lack for it being screed down can cause this issue? Not sure of those screws are a ground of some kind. I'll try the audio in the morning. That's for the response.

        Hello forum folks!

So I plugged my Roku into the HDMI plug and fired up the tv. The picture is clearly there as I can see movement when I touch the roku remote. As I turned the vol all the way up and no sound was to be heard from the roku as I moved around the menu.

So could this mean the Tcon is fine and the main board is poo poo?

This is why I always meet at private residences when transacting over trading sites... Did you do this?

I would say 90% certain panel is bad. I do not think it can be fixed. I have seen this before. Can sometimes be tab bonds but not always permanent fix. Try lightly twisting TV frame, does picture appear?

No I didn't them at a place with power, I took a gamble and lost.

I tapped an wiggled the tab bonds but nothing changes. How can you tell it is the panel vs a board? If the panel was bad, wouldn't I get sound still?

            Thanks for your responses!

If you can't select an input source, you won't be able to choose one with audio, or see if it has been set to zero volume, or home theatre output. Had that fool me before. The effect is pretty characteristic of a panel fault, there's a small chance the t-con is causing it, but I wouldn't bet much on that.

              Some people are bastards.
