Hisense 55Q9G Android reset / factory firmware reload

Hello. Have a 55" Hisense TV that starts to load the Android OS (no backlight issues) -> reaches the app screen where you can view the assorted icons including Netflix and always crashes at the same point just after this launch. If I quickly press the cursor buttons, the cursor can navigate to the settings menu but will power off just after a few seconds of this activity. Do not believe it is power related since the crash is very accurate in the boot cycle.

After the OS 'crashes', the power does go off and the from white LED goes dark for about 20 seconds and then ON again. At this point, the remote can be used to power up again -> Android splash screen launches and the cycle repeates.

No red blinking lights so suspecting this to be a s/w fault rather than a hardware one.

Is it possible to reload the latest firmware / Android OS for a fresh start? At this time, believe it is an Android OS corruption.

There is a 'service' hole on the back left of the TV and what appears to be a dome switch at the end. Is this a factory RESET button? The tactile dome switch does not appear to be compress when poking the hole so may have to remove the back cover to review this switch.

    Welcome all suggestions. Thanks.

Hello, the Hisense TVs have a reset button for the system. Disconnect it from the power outlet, press the button, and while keeping it pressed, reconnect it to the power outlet. If it starts up on its own, that resets the system.

However, I have been experiencing several issues with them, and the most common problem is that the EMMC memory gets damaged and needs to be replaced... which is a problem because the systems are not easy to find 😥😓

Thanks. Which button ? Is it the SERVICE button or the power button? We have a SMD work station so that is a good start. Are schematics available for this unit? Which EMMC needs to be replaced? You are sourcing from a donor board? Perhaps can find a replacement board from Aliexpress?

Update - Hisense just replied and also agreed that the fault may be a corrupt Android OS. For which they have supplied the URL to allow us to download the latest firmware using a USB stick for this unit. However, the serial # on the unit (purchased from Costco) does not work and reports an incorrect serial #. This is ghetto.

Any chance we can download the firmware from here or another URL for the 55Q9G ? Found 393 pages of talk on the AVS forum but so far, no direct firmware link for this model.

Thanks. This TV is a 55". Any chance you would have a compatible firmware for that sized unit?

            Hisense replied with the following:

Thank you for contacting Hisense Customer Support.

We have received your information however based on the message received , it means we currently do not have firmware available for this model as not all models will have updates either due to being an older model TV or the firmware is not uploaded.
Being Android, there must be a reload process to reload the firmware over USB.

Yes, I see that you have a 55 diagonal, if this firmware (update) completely rewrites the eMMC, then there may be a problem with the image, if it does not affect the panel settings, then everything will be fine. I also found the serial number and it also blocks it.

The problem may be that the serial number does not match your region, your country in which you are registering it.

Thanks again. Phoned Hisense Canada (who is very responsive) and they stated that they only store 2 years of firmware images on their servers. That is why the serial # is being rejected. Kind of lame but the support staff was very fast to pick up the phone.

How to test the image you have posted? Extract onto the root of a USB media and power up? Will attempt it.

Thanks. The USB media was detected on my FAT32 formatted 8GB stick -> the 65" firmware was rejected with an 'ERROR' in red text. Then the Android OS continued to boot like before and power cycles after shortly after reaching the APP screen.

Could this be a power supply fault? I do not believe so but wanted to ask if this is a common issue on this brand. After the power is shut off from this 'crash' - the white LED is dark for at least 20-30 seconds. Then the WHITE LED is on and we can repeat this cycle with a remote or button at the bottom of the TV.

Next, can remove the cover to check for potentially bad caps on the power supply. Aliexpress offers a few nice tools to allow for testing of the power supplies using a universal load. Also they have a replacement universal power supply based on a 24V 5A power adapter that creates the assorted power rails to potentially power this unit. This is to allow ruling out the power supply as the guilty party.

Thank you guys. Attempted again as per Reddit articles (by Hisense) to use < 16GB (mine is 8GB) USB 2.0 stick with the above 65" firmware (ONLY - no other files onboard this stick) and was previously formatted with FAT32. The USB media is found and the OS is 'Checking the pkg file' for about 5 mins or so and then powers off but the white LED remained lit. That is, the fact that the 'checking' process ran for 5+ mins, this confirms the power supply is NOT the fault. However, the file was apparently rejected since I am still on the same OS quirk with the same apps as per the start.

Hi. A few updates and questions on this case.

                          1) Proceeded to order a factory new controller board for this 55Q9G to service the worn out emmc which prevents the Android OS from properly booting. Always crashes at a fixed point of the boot process. The vendor shipped a controller board for the 65" Hisense as the 55" main board is not available and is EOL. This was an honest mistake by the vendor as we also had a 65" request with a backlight fault which is not worth repairing.

                          2) Applied the new board on arrival and now facing a led flicker on first power on and then this fault disappears. The vendor noted this could be due to the difference in the number of LED zones on the 65" (188?) vs. 55" (132?). Any feedback?

                          3) The vendor noted it is not possible to reflash the firmware to change the models yet the controller board is 100% identical - that is the firmware is obviously different inside the controller boards. A vendor in China noted the fault is not the controller board but the power supply or led drivers. Could the LED driver be at fault? We still have the original non-working controller board for testing if required. The unit is with the owner.

Summary: The 65" main board works 98% on the 55" 55Q9G for which the main board is no longer available except for the initial power up led flicker. How to eliminate the led flicker? Replace with a constant current universal LED driver? The flat FPC cables are not fun to interface with so prefer not to take this route. Will double check the connector seatings but we were extremely careful to not flex any of the rigid fpc cables, etc. The new board did perform 2 automatic firmware updates from the Hisense server.

                          Welcome all feedback.

                          Shipped board that was installed:

                          65Q9G T270342 Main board
Board that should have been shipped and installed but is EOL and no longer shipping:

55Q9G T270089 Main board Main Board ----NO STOCK EOL

So using this process, we can change the screen size to 55" to fix this BL issue? This is awesome. Will share with the client so wish to be clear on the procedure. Thanks so much.
