Vizio p50hdtv10A No Picture No Sound

My niece dropped off her 50" plasma that she said had sound but no picture. Her husband had pulled the power supply out ahead of time and when I looked at it I saw the volcano caps on the PS so I replaced them all, installed it and I got not picture no sound. Since I don't have schematics I was at a loss. I usually only work on Panasonic plasmas (since I have schematics) but thought I'd give this one a shot. Once operating, the supply voltages were correct so I'm at a loss to know what to look for next. A couple of days ago I saw another of the same type on CL and bought it. Again, it was reported as sound OK but no picture. I never tried turning it on before looking at the power supply. When I did, I saw it had bad caps too. I replaced them all (10 of them) and assembled the unit. No picture, no sound. The supply voltages read fine and the power on/off functions normally. In checking connector voltages from board to board against what the legends say on the PCB, the only disparity was on the VS board to the driver. The legend says +5VF and it reads 23VDC. The regulated +5 from the supply reads fine. Does anyone have experience with this model and can shed some light?

Not sure how I missed the postings for someone with similar problems using the BCF search engine but Google showed it up. I did cycle through inputs and no sound. No glowing at all on the plasma.

the voltage you said are correct are they the same written on th board?

did you get your stanby light on?

For all the ones that the PS generates directly, yes, written on the boards. The odd voltage is the 5VF. This appears to be a voltage generated on the Y board since it's not named coming out of the main PS.

On the left, top, edge of the Y board connector, the PCB labels it as 5VF, but it reads over 20VDC. This connector connects directly the the top driver board, the one with the epoxy encapsulated chips, and then directly to the flex cables. Is this a floating voltage? I was grounding to chassis.

        Any clues?

The set appears to be working, sans a picture and sound. The light goes from yellow to green and remains there 'till you power it down.
I can hear the magnetics on the Y board humming, The VS/VA are have no voltage markings on the PCB but I got those values from on-line and they read within .05 percent of the published values.
ALL the LVPS stuff I measured, 3.3,5,9,12 etc were all there. The 9VDC was about 8.7 or so.??

No change with input select, volume control or menu buttons. Power button works fine.

Both the Y and Z heat sinks are slightly warm, less warm than you'd think they should be considering the size of the heat sinks, but it's pretty cold here today.
The large array driver on the bottom of the set is cold as a brick. I have no clue if this heat sink should be warm or not. The Panny's don't really use these massive sinks, they sink to the chassis more.

There's some mystery with the 4 LED's on the logic board. If anyone has details on the codes used, I'd be forever thankful for the help.

I found out that the +5VF is really a floating voltage that can't be measured from chassis ground. When I use a ground near the supply the voltage reads fine at +5VDC.

Still struggling here and no clue what the LEDs mean. I think I might have to just junk both sets since I'm just not making any progress and don't want to invest in schematics.

Hey.. Made some progress on this set. I ended up getting another Vizio 10a model that's working (kinda sorta because it needs caps replaced) but I used it as a test bed and found that the YSUS board is the culprit causing the no pic/no sound issue. I'm looking to repair to component level on this YSUS board. Any help would be appreciated.

              Ron,
Please keep me updated on your progress. I'm working on the same thing and am really interested in the failure modes of the Y Main. I've purchased a good board for the purpose of comparison. Seems to be a common problem with the Visio plasma TV when the power supply fails due to bad caps and also fail the Y Main. Curious to know how how these things fail.

The forms are leading me to believe that the big chip under the heat sink is the bad device. They appear to be quite expensive so I'm looking to see if maybe Panasonic uses the same device (I have a few Ysus boards from old Panasonics around that I could pull from).

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                  by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                  Assuming...

Vizio M65-E0 No Picture, No Sound
                  by ggil44
Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
                  by TR103
                  Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                  - sound and backlight, but no picture
                  - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                  - it keeps rebooting
                  - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                  - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                  - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                  - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

Toshiba 37AV500A Regza TV good power supply no sound no picture
                  by jord4231
                  Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a Toshiba 37AV500A Regza TV.

                  The issue:
TV was working picture and sound went out. Green stand by light stayed on, It will respond to the power button being pressed (goes in and out of standby)
The TV will very intermittently work for around 40 mins then stop. This doesn't seem to matter if its hot/cold unplugged for a while etc.

I checked the PSU voltages and everything looked good.
No bulging caps or signs of heat.

                  24v aud = 24.41v
                  12v = 11.98v
                  5v = 5.062

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                  by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and
