Thank you for the comprehensive response that pointed me in the right direction.

I remembered having a bit of trouble connecting the cable from the Logic Board to the Y-Drive board. I opened the connector and carefully reseated the cable. It had been taped down at a slight angle so was tricky to fit.

This is hard to admit but I made a basic rookie error. As I checked the board I spotted...... I had not connected the power connector! WHY? I have no idea.

    IT WORKS!!!

What a fantastic picture. Hooked up my Raspberry Pi and watched a 1080 episode of Planet Earth. Fantastic quality. It is a totally different experience from our old 27" CRT TV.

THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to this fantastic result.

    A warning to others
I am skint and thought I could save a few bob by buying a cheap, broken TV and repair it. Surface mounted components stopped that line of thought. Cascading failures (Buffer taking out Main taking out Power) escalated the cost. Initial research found buffer repair kits for a few quid. In the end it has cost me over £260.

If you have a set you spent hundreds on then repair it. Other than that - buy new with warranty!

I'm sure you're relieved. We all make rookie mistakes, sometimes the most simplest things are overlooked because of exactly that. They're so simple they don't enter the mind as being an issue.

Process of elimination, gather the evidence you do know.

As for the cheap broken TV / restoration. yeah, you have to do the research first. A lot of TVs have common faults, then have to locate parts, availability/cost/postage etc or if you have the skills and gear component level can be fun but tricky.

This particular model repairing the Ymain, no problem and cheap enough at component level, the upper buffers are expensive and difficult to source , ok for the skilled with hot air I guess, not me.

They're getting on a bit , hope you get a bit of life out of it.

Nice one Paul glad you sorted it out your post has been real helpful to me.
I have a similar problem with my samsungPS50-C96HD.
Left telly on,fell asleep when woke up there was no picture, just sound. Can switch channels but only get sound.
Looked in local paper for tv repair man,he quoted me £170,with out looking at it,said it was common problem with this model.
Was inspired by your post/photos so i whipped the back panel off and had a look around Didnt really have a clue what i was looking for.
Eny how i noticed on the smps board couple of capacitors had raised/bevelled tops like they had blowin.
        V4a 25v 1000uf
        V2a 25v 1000uf
        V2a 25v 470uf.
Will try to get pic up later when get camera.
My abiltiy is very low at this kind of thing, but have nothing to lose.

          Spoke to tv repair man.
He tells me that replacing these three capacitors will not solve my no picture problem. As the no picture will originate from Y board and buffers would have to be replaced as well.Would he be right?
Is it worth the cost of fixing?

            1. yes,

            2. no, but all depends on what a new TV is worth or what they sell used. personal choice really.

you'd have to refurb that PSU too with fresh caps and a reflow on the common joints that crack and blow that up.

I'd rather look out for a faulty 2009 panasonic FHD plasma( 50PZ80/800) with 2 or 10 blink fault and replace a tiny cap on that for a superior product.

170 quid equate to over $350 AUD. I have 1 of these and i can't bring myself to spend $100 in parts to bring it back

              Thanks.
Ended up buying new tv samsung 48"H6400 3D smart.

Wasnt sure what to do with the old one, sell for parts??
So having a good look at it and noticed a cable (CN4000) on the x-drive board was not attached some how worked it self lose going to put it all back later and see if that was causing the no picture.

They get spiked and blow(non repairable chips on the panel ribbons)
There is a aluminium strip that sits across those too(heatsink) I thought was just a bracket, they fry quick smart and same deal, dead panel.

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
                    by TR103
                    Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                    - sound and backlight, but no picture
                    - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                    - it keeps rebooting
                    - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                    - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                    - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                    - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

SAMSUNG UN55KS9000F picture fades then distorts into vertical lines after 20 seconds
                    by JJAAMM
This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                    Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                    by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

                    Hello all,

This is my first post, but long term lurker on the form learning as much as possible about these TV's. I was given this TV as due to a power outage of constant On/off of power to TV. The TV originally would just click on and off (Typical Reboot Cycle). I opened the back of the TV, and troubleshooted by taking the 96 pin LVDS off one at a time to see if I had a picture on either side. I finally fixed the reboot cycle by finding the error on the left side of the screen off connector CN 1301, and the TV would stay on. Further troubleshooting led me to the driver boards where...
