Sony Bravia KDL-46Z4100: Dark in the middle, left side good, right side "freezes."

Brand new member here. My five-year old Bravia KDL-46Z4100 developed a problem last week. While watching it, a black horizontal line in the center third showed up and flickered for a minute. After a bit of time, the lower third center of the screen went dark (like a dark rectangle), then a general dark smear developed top to bottom in the center third of the screen. The left third looks okay, and the right third sort of freezes and holds the image for a bit but never really recovers.

This lasted for a bit of time that night, and then corrected itself like nothing was wrong. TV ran fine for a couple of nights, then it happened again, same way. The last time it happened, the picture didn't recover and the picture stays as described above. If the scene is well lighted, the center third shows up, just darker with muted and off colors. In dark scenes, the center third is barely visible - just dark.

I have the back off of the unit. I see all of the major components. I work in the electronics industry, but this is my first foray inside of an LCD TV. All I know about them I learned in the past couple of hours perusing this forum!

For reference, here's a pic from this forum of a TV identical to mine. Inverter on left (I removed the EMI shield to look around), T-CON at top (I have not poked around there at all).

    Any thought would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Lee

This is most likely a tab bond fault. There are videos on youtube which relate to this problem.

^different problem but same root cause

      Hi Tom66,

Thanks for your reply. I checked around all of the tabs to try to make any changes and had no success. We've pretty much decided to give up on the good old Bravia and get a replacement TV. Probably a Samsung 55". A little disappointed that a five-year old TV has gone, but that's the way of it these days.

      Best wishes,

      Lee

A2442 MacBook Pro 14" Two Left SIDE USB C ports charge but no data
          by Stephen
Right SIDE usb.c port charges and transfers data without issue, two left side uSB c ports charge but do not receive or see data. Was liquid damaged, and repaired significantly and thought we were in the clear but appears this is the last issue that is rearing its head. I am trying to locate the RETIMER chip that communicates the DATA TX/RX but I cannot seem to find it on the schematic or maybe I am just so tired my eyes wore out lol. Any help would be great.

SMEG induction cooker error EA on both left hand side cooktops
          by Gjackson
          Hi all,

I have a SMEG cooktop with a EGO 72.08041.002 power board. The two left hand side cooktops started to slowly fail, sometimes stopping with an EA error (Power board failure according to the manual) after a couple minutes boiling some water and eventually they completely failed and now get an EA error on both of them at all times. Visual inspection of the board went over ok, I checked the IGBT's and rectifiers and they seem fine, what should I look at next as this is the first time I'm fixing an induction cooker, I'm suspecting capacitors in this case, Which ones should I look...

Samsung QN75Q6FNA backlight no display, red LED blink 2x, fault in panel
          by howardc64
          • Prior owner tried a replacement main board. No difference.
          • Samsung 2x red blinking standby LED = panel fault
          • Jumpered FB_TRDY_1 (pin 1 CN1300 left. main tcon->left side buffer boards) and FB_TRDY_3 (pin 95 CN1301 right. main tcon->right side buffer boards) This allows testing individual T-Con (on main board) connection to panel on this Samsung. Found fault on left side (viewing from rear of TV)
          • Each side has 2 buffer boards, disconnected left side flex between 2 buffer boards. Fault is on the left most board.
          • Tape masking eventually isolated to CN1300 pin 15 (CKV4_GOA) Display

Vizio M60-C3 left side of screen + a couple other areas dim
          by frannyjunk
My Vizio M60-C3 was dead. No power, no lights. Just nothing. So I took the back cover off and noticed 4 bulging caps on the power supply board, so I replaced them (green low esr capacitors in the picture). The tv now works! But there are some areas that look dim (see picture). In particular, the left side has a dim band. I know that the led strips run horizontal, yet this band is vertical. Could it be that the led driver board is bad? Could the blown caps have taken out the led driver board? Or is this just a coincidence that every left side led on each strip just went out?...
