Panasonic TH-42PZ70BA 10 blinks no power - intermittently

    Hi there,

I have a Panasonic TH-42PZ70BA open on my table. Symptoms are no power and the standby LED blinks ten times, but sometimes it works fine. Right now it's working, making the problem a little difficult to pin down.

The power board is ETX2MM681MF and I have searched around for other people's experience repairing this TV and power board and found not much. I have found 10 flash repair kits and repair services for this board, and similar problems with other Panasonic models lead me to suspect the MC201 & MC301 modules.

I've seen the information regarding replacing the TEA1611T and capacitor on MC201&301 on other models but my modules are a different layout and use a TEA1610T chip, so although I could guess, I'm not sure I'd be replacing the right things with the right values in this case. Does anyone out there know?

    See for example:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/PANASONIC-Po...-/140990638215

    and:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PANASONIC-...item23189dcde0

The first kit lists as its contents 2 x surface mount ICs,2 x multilayer ceramic capacitors,1 x photo-coupler.

Does anybody know exactly which components are in the kit or how to find out? I'd like to fix this TV myself and buy the components individually rather than buying an expensive kit from the US.

    Thanks!

Check out this video, Ive fixed two with this trouble by replacing the capacitor only.
    I ordered these from digikey.
Getting them soldered in is a bit tricky as they are so small. Yours is most likely a similar fault, you can isolate the cap with freeze spray.

      Thanks Caleb,

I've seen that video and thought to replace the capacitor. But does this also work with the modules with the TEA1610T, and is it still the obvious capacitor to the top left of the IC as shown in the pic I attached? Is it a still a 1uF capacitor?

^That video is sadly not relevant to this 2007 PDP, only 2008 PDPs.

          Ah, shame.

I have tried freezing the MC201 & MC301, both when the TV was in 10 flash mode, and just now when it's working. It made no difference either time.

          Any other ideas?

Also.. what do you think the NPMLQNFA thick film module is on the ebay auction for the repair service?

            http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PANASONIC-...item23189dcde0

Thick film sounds like a resistor to me. One fix for the TEA1611 versions is soldering a resistor from Vdd on the TEA chip to pin 12 on the module.

I wrote to the ebayer describing my problem and got a vague answer saying his module would fix my problem. But £49 seems a lot to pay if he's just going to send me a resistor or something.

                  Hello folks.
I have some info about this.
You should check if D401 is s/c or leaking. You should also replace MC301 and MC351.

Also check if T201 termal fuse is open.

Hope this throws some light in.

                    Thanks Blanqui

D401 tests fine. T201 is fine and must be as the TV does work intermittently.

I'd prefer to change individual components on the MC301 as it would work out a lot cheaper than replacing the whole module.

Btw everyone, I found out that the NPMLQNFA refers to the MC301/201 module. It is printed on the back of the PCB. So the ebay product looks to be a replacement MC301.

I have ordered a couple of TEA1610Ts from China for less than £5. My current plan is to replace those and the capacitors on both modules.

tom66 I'm still interested in what your ASC friend has to say.

I personally have never ordered the TEA1611 I've always replace the capacitors everything else seem to be ok I've done son about 7 different Panasonic plasmas now. Do these Ics actually fail?
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

So, I have replaced just the capacitors as the chips will take a while to get here anyway. TV is working fine at the moment. Lets see if it holds up.

Sorry to say it didn't last long. A couple of days later and it's back to flashing. Will try changing the ICs when they arrive in the post.

Re: Panasonic TH-42PZ70BA 10 blinks no power - intermittently

                                Funny story...

So I got the TEA1610s and meticulously soldered them in place. Tested the TV and no.. still 10 blinks.

So after trawling google yet again for anything slightly relating to TVs like this I started testing voltages around the TV to narrow down whether it was really the P board at fault or if it was the D or DG board or whatever. Long story short I noticed when I probed a pin on one of the connectors to the DG board the TV worked, but when I pulled away it switched off. So it turned out that connector was not seated correctly. After pulling out and re-seating the connector all is good.. hopefully for a good long time.

So... moral of the story is, before assuming you've got a common fault you read about on the internet, maybe try the basics first. Like checking all the cables and connections and testing voltages.

Anyway, lesson learned. And I've improved my smd soldering skills and didn't end up spending too much money. Happy to have a working TV.

Hello! yes I know there is already lots of information about this issue. I have a Panasonic TC-P55ST50 that originally displayed an 8-blink error code. Following the troubleshooting flowchart, I ended up replacing the SS board. However, even after replacing it, the issue persists. The TV turns on and stays on without displaying an image, and continuity is confirmed on all connectors. What am I missing here🤔?

Bought this TV used not working, panel flashed briefly on power up and it was blinking 8 times, a quick look on SS board revealed a common fault on the 3uF 250V capacitors, C201 to C205 (C1620X in the service manual), the solder joints were all cracked, C201 and C205 pins were darkened and some sparking had occurred on them, C201 was split open and clearly overheated in its last hours, replaced that one and resoldered the others, 8 blinks fixed.

Also the previous owner broke the antenna connector by taking the TV out of the wall mount forgetting to unplug it, I desoldered the tuner...

                                  Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

                                  Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

                                  Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...

As the title states, I followed the troubleshooting guide located here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/23...page=53#manual, which concluded the 'A' board needs to be replaced. Looking around the net and eBay, I see that there are repair services for the board (TNPH1043UE? Not sure if it is a 'UE' as the suffix grid does not appear marked). What additional troubleshooting can be performed to ensure 1) this board is the problem and 2) since there are repair services, what are they fixing on the board?) I expected 3.3V not to be available anywhere...
